Dump calls for Goodyear boycott again, says workers can always find another job

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Gov. Mike DeWine said Thursday he disagreed with President Donald Trump’s call for a boycott of Akron-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber.

The announcement puts DeWine, a Republican, directly at odds with Trump, also a Republican, over one of Ohio’s largest employers with just 75 days to go until the Nov. 3 election. Trump and campaign officials have maintained that they support a boycott of the company.

Trump said he wasn’t concerned about the jobs at Goodyear facilities because workers could find another job, even as the country is in a recession and the unemployment rate in the state was still above 10% according to preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released in June, the last publicly available data.

"I can guarantee I poll very well with all those workers in Goodyear," Trump said.

As DeWine typically does, he avoided mentioning Trump at all, including whether he thought it was appropriate for the president to attack a private company over a political matter.

Michelin alone has 8 or 10 plants in the US, but they're not a US company.
Pirelli, Yokahoma, & Bridgestone have multiple plants here.
