The COVID-19 pandemic is over. The virus has been vanquished. Were all safe!
This is how I know.
I am currently living in rural, East Texas. This was errand day for me. I stay home as much as possible, but today, I had to go out. Naturally, I wore my mask. The State of Texas is under an order from our Governor to do so when were in public spaces. Even if I werent under such an order, I would wear a mask anyway because thats the socially-responsible thing to do under the threat of a deadly virus that is easily transmitted via aerosols emitted during ordinary breathing.
Evidently, I didnt get the memo. I visited three, separate businesses. The first was a grocerynot a Walmart, but a slightly-smaller store. The second was a liquor storesue me; if you dont need a sedative right now, youre not paying attention. The third was a gas station. At these three establishments, not a single customer (except me) was wearing a mask. Only at the small grocery were the employees wearing masks. Evidently, the folks at the other two businesses got the memothe pandemic is OVER!
Why? Because through his words and actions, thats what the President told these people, and a lot of them actually believe him. I know thats hard for DU to fathom. Most of us are a bit above the average IQ of the average American citizen, but we need to remember that half of us are below the average IQ, and many of them actually believe what this compulsive liar tells them.
Honestly, I was shocked. I hadnt been out for a week or so. Mask compliance was much better prior to the RNC. Now, its basically gone. Why? Because Trump said so.
So let us rejoice! The pandemic is a thing of the past. I admit that I was pretty sick of it.

(60,423 posts)we went to the local Farmers market this AM, outdoors, not overly crowded, and 95% compliance with masks was observed. Those few that were not wearing them stood out, for sure, and were getting nasty looks

(322 posts)The more of these idiot f**k Trump supporters not wearing masks the less of them will be around as time goes on. And that is fine by me.

(5,946 posts)...except that my sister is a nurse and would have to take care of 'em.
We need special "red" hospitals where they can be cared for using bleach, HCQ, and prayer miracles.

(14,949 posts)My daughter works in a supermarket, and this week she has noticed a marked increase of people refusing to wear masks. She says most wear or say something or other that identifies them as right-wingers. Almost all of them are old white men. She believes it's a direct result of the RNC.

(824 posts)Visited a diesel truck dealership and repair facility (needed some large vacuum hose for my Dodge 2500 work truck), all the proper signs on the door about face masks and distancing but once inside I was the only one masked, and distance was not considered. Needed gas for the truck and a drink for me at a nearby gas station. While the customers were masked the employees were not, including the manager. My comment to my wife was these folks believe this is over and we will pay a heavy price for that later this fall when the numbers start going up exponentially.

(113,040 posts)When I went out Tuesday, there was 100% masking with no dicknoses or chin guards to be seen. I was shocked, honestly. I suppose people outside the city aren't that compliant, but they were in my area.
That being said, there were two house parties on my block today, the litter of puppies, er, college students next door and the huge extended family across the street. No, I didn't call the cops or anything, I'm not one of those. If having this virus is what it will take to get through to them, that's what it will take.

(53,061 posts)Most disciplined store I have been to.
They had the entrance roped off so people had to snake around to get to the door. Nobody could sneak in, they could see who had a mask on long before they hit the door.
They had 2 people at the door checking masks and they wore purposeful expressions. Had 2 people wiping down carts.
Upon entering there were large signs explaining all aisles were strictly 1 way and the aisles were clearly marked.
They had monitors in the store keeping their eyes open for anyone not social distancing.
Clearly it was the local store manager that was making a difference. The store was in an old building but it was spotless and there was a crew cleaning and wiping down surfaces.
I'd like to think that the fact that the area has a significant Apache population may have been a factor in raising their compliance to protect a vulnerable group of our citizens but in any case it should be noted that in this red area this Walmart was on top of the game.
