NY Times U.S. Will Revive Global Virus-Hunting Effort Ended Last Year


A worldwide virus-hunting program allowed to expire last year by the Trump administration, just before the coronavirus pandemic broke out, will have a second life — whatever the outcome of the presidential election.

The expiration of Predict just weeks before the advent of the pandemic prompted wide criticism among scientists, who noted that the coronavirus is exactly the sort of catastrophic animal virus the program was designed to head off.

“Barack Obama and Joe Biden had a program, called Predict, that tracked emerging diseases in places like China,” she (the K-Bomb aka Senator Harris) said late in her 20-minute speech. “Trump cut it.”

The government agency that let Predict die last October has quietly created a $100 million program with a similar purpose as Predict, but it has a different name. The new program, set to begin in October, will be called Stop Spillover.

Predict, which was started in 2009 as part of the Obama administration’s Emerging Pandemic Threats program, was inspired by the 2005 H5N1 bird flu scare. Predict was run by the United States Agency for International Development, which is an independent foreign-aid agency overseen by the State Department.

Is there any doubt that Trump cut the program because it was "the black guy's idea." Predict had scientists on the ground in Wuhan, China in Oct of 2019 looking for viruses like C-19 and Trump stopped that program. We should not be going through this this viral nightmare right now.

1. "Predict" implies detecting a viral threat before it becomes a problem or spreads.

“Predict” means that nothing disastrous happens because it was stopped from happening in the first place.

“Stop Spillover” implies that the viral “reservoir is filled” and that emergency action has to be taken immediately in order to prevent an imminent disaster, i.e. breach of the viral dam, and the resulting fatal consequences of the dam failure.

4. I hope you are right but so many "things" that Trump has said and done should have done "it" ....

... to Trump before the 2016 election. The same thing goes for all the things that Trump has
said and done once he got in the White House too. His assisanation of the Iranain General
caused Iran to hit back at a US militay base in Iraq which resulted in > 100 cases of our
troops getting T.B.I. (Traumatic Brain Injury) that alone should have cooked Trump's goose.
