(53,778 posts)trump, Barr and Moscow Mitch so bills can be passed to root out the operatives who act as conduits of voter info to the ruskies. Who knows what they want with the info but the fact that they want it and get it through repug channels speaks volumes.

(38,601 posts)What can they do with it? Have ballots mailed to Moscow?

(34,857 posts)1) this shit is public record. Anyone can find it if they search for it.
2) lots of stuff dumped on the dark web is done in bulk with no expectation for use. If your email provider was hacked years ago, one of your emails and maybe even passwords to it probably ended up on the dark web in the mass data dumps that no one really ever uses.
This tweet is ridiculous - used to scare people with flashy buzzwords.

(53,778 posts)trump won in '16 by 77k votes. Russian bots continually targeting vulnerable voters by the millions could possibly have influenced enough to change the minds of 77k voters who once pulled the lever for Obama.
Who knows how they use the info. What needs to be done is to tighten up access to voter info and also to codify penalties to social media who allow their platforms to be used by foreign operatives to reach voters with negative and false programming about Dem candidates which helps trump/repugs win.

(34,857 posts)That alone shows this info is largely useless.

(53,778 posts)Also see post 5. I think we're being naive if we think this micro-targeting doesn't work.

(34,857 posts)Lots of junk thrown up on the dark web for anyone to grab if they want it but it doesn't mean it's all that valuable. I'm sure a few of your old email accounts are on there too.
Beyond that, this information is readily available in bulk on the normal internal.

(40 posts)I thought we Americans were the best at just about everything? How is it that we dont have the capabilities to shut this crap down? We should be able to wreck havoc on them not the other way around.
