Hunting is one of the most controversial "sports" on the planet and has been repeatedly slammed by animal rights activists.

But it's not just a dangerous pastime for the animals pursued, it can also put the hunters themselves in danger, regardless of how unlikely it may seem.

Now, a hunter has lost his life after being killed by an elk that he had previously wounded with a bow and arrow.

The Hillsboro man passed away on Sunday morning in Tillamook County, Oregon Live reports, after being fatally gored by an elk that he had shot the day before. .........(more)

16. I recall a coworker asking what I was eating at lunchtime while at work many years ago. When I told

her "venison", she reacted with disgust. "How can you eat that?" she asked.

Curious about her reaction, I asked if she was a vegetarian. She wasn't. She simply found the idea of eating "wild" meat instead of "tame" meat revolting, and not because of any objection to hunting. She just thought that meat which wasn't from a farm was "gross".

I eat it when it's offered, I know many subsistence hunters and am picky as to whom I will accept meat from, because it's organic for starters. It's also lean and healthy, tastes good. I won't eat most packaged meat unless I know the source, I never eat beef, I will eat antelope, deer and elk.
