Speaking of the Post Office ...

Some years ago I mailed my brother in another state a picture postcard.

It apparently got damaged enroute.

What he received was only a small portion of the postcard, the area containing his address. The post office put it into a ‘ziplock baggie’ and delivered it to him.

think visible was the "A" in AR.

It had the yellow forwarding strips on it where it had gone to Alaska and then Arizona and finally Arkansas. Apparently my town name and address was not in the other states.

a crucial letter, request for birth certificate, which was to contain a check for fees. I realized about an hour after I dropped it in a mailbox that the check didn't make it into the envelop! I went directly to the main PO in the city, Madison, WI, and was able to talk to the postmaster.

I explained what had happened and which box I dropped it in. He took my phone number and said he would contact me later in the day. About 5pm he called to say they found my letter and were holding for me!

I rushed back with the check and a new stamp. They let me open the letter, place the check inside, tape it shut, and put it back into the batch they found it in, and didn't require more postage.

From that day on, decades ago, I have had absolute respect for the service.

What has been foisted upon the in recent years is a crime and the Service needs to be restored.
