(I know "we're a republic." But republics can be democracies, and that's what we're supposed to be, not some "republic" in the sense that all decisions are made by representatives who aren't subject to election.)

2. tell him we're a REPRESENTATIVE republic, not just a republic

and a representative republic and a democracy are essentially the same thing. Then chide him for cutting class in high school, which is where he would have learned this.

5. When I early voted in 2018..

I was accosted by a young punk trying to shove a repub sample ballot at me. I glanced at his hand and drew myself up to my full..short..height and loudly scolded him. It was something like, “I do NOT vote for traitors or sexual predators and, quite frankly, neither should you. SHAME ON YOU!” The kid jumped back, everyone around us started laughing, and I happily went on my way. Didn’t see the kid out there when I came back out a little while later.
