Got my flu & 1st shingles shots. Shingles vaccination was painful as heck! Sorry im a wuss & needle averse
Anyhoo, while waiting @the drugstore i had on my sun visor w Biden 4 President button pinned smack in the middle, received several compliments about it from the people around me, including from the pharmacist. Made me think to myself if this is a sign of things to come - a change in the American psyche that this is our point of reckoning. I left the place in slightly more pain than when i entered it, but glad that the good folks i met all seemed they would be voting for Biden.

(9,352 posts)Couldnt raise my arm for three days. Major swelling and even a bit of numbness.
Its ok now but I am not looking forward to the second round.
The flu shot I just got was odd. It felt like there was a larger amount of fluid than before. It was just icky.
However, I will be looking very closely at any covid vaccine they come up with. Seems like it is being rushed and that never comes out well.

(13,036 posts)But its all good. We w be a nation of ouchies if we rush to get an untested one. I've recommended Biden challenge the Con to take the quack vaccine he's peddling, &i'd bet my first born he wouldn't dare

(4,673 posts)just like yours, and the pharmacist said my reaction to the 2nd would mimic whatever I experienced with the first, but it didnt. It went much more smoothly, with very little reaction.
So theres hope!

(9,694 posts)back. Sorry for your pain but I am here to tell you, the pain from shingles is far, far worse. Nerve endings go numb, lasted a long time and I am now feeling good thank goodness.

(130,865 posts)I did not have ouchies similar to yours, from shingles vaccine shot(s,) happily; only problem was sleeping on that arm, for 2 nights.

Both shingles shots made my arm ache and I had mild flu like symptoms for a few days.
However, it was totally worth the discomfort in order to avoid ever getting shingles!
I had a bad case of chicken pox as a child, and was told that I was at high risk for shingles.

(10,133 posts)at least for me and my survey group of 2 additional people. Beats having shingles, though, from what I hear.

(7,845 posts)not exaggerating ... at least 10 people stopped me ...from a distance...and wanted to know where I got it...I gave them the website and watched them order from their phones...a few actually reached out to friends and family ...I told every one to vote Biden...lots of thumbs up and you bets...I'm encouraged..last week I wore my Fauci mask to Whole Foods...two healthcare workers took a pic and ordered on the spot...

(2,220 posts)I was down for ten days. Fever of 101, arm deep red and swollen shoulder to elbow, incredible muscle aches. I had the same reaction from the second shingles, but it only lasted two days, and I never have to go through that again.

(13,036 posts)time. Hoping the second one won't be bad either

(2,220 posts)Honestly, the only thing that got me in there for the second shot was a get this shit over with as fast as possible mindset. I knew the longer I waited, the more I would procrastinate and avoid it.

(9,352 posts)I have it set in my mind for around thanksgiving.
Its really silly of me because I go for allergy shots (2 in each arm) once a month. But, those are really minor and dont hurt after an hour.
Guess I will just grit the teeth and tell whoever is giving the shot to just ignore the moans and tears.

(2,220 posts)But the after effects were crappy again, just not for nearly as long. And my window for getting it opened right around Christmas. But I waited, and marched myself to the clinic bright and early..January 2.

(2,193 posts)It was so easy for him to get into the Whitehouse that we must never forget, future generations must never forget, how this could happen.
That he still enjoys as much support as he does should be shocking to all and never be forgotten or dismissed as anything less that a symptom of a severely diseased culture.
American exceptionality?

(23,530 posts)tube to eat. He had facial paralysis he was hospitalized for 10 days. It was so bad. He had extreme neuropathic pain. I went out and got my Shingles vaccine and got the sore arm and the fever for a day or two and was very grateful to have the vaccine available.
My family member is doing very well now no residual pain no feeding tube and his facial paralysis resolved. It could have been worse.
Please everyone over 50 get the vaccine.

(13,036 posts)debilitating her other patients went thru when they had it (all of them over 50 like me), and with my sister & her adult daughter having it recently i figured it was time just to get'er done. So far so good for me - a mild ache but no intense pain thank goodness.

My husband got shingles in his 50s, fortunately just down his leg, but bad enough. Our insurance company said we were too young to get vaccinated, but to hell with them. I think it cost something like $600 for me I really dont remember having a particularly bad reaction 20+ years ago, but I would have willingly endured same regardless. I used to treat my childrens vaccination experiences with warm compresses and baby Tylenol, so it's not an alien concept.

(14,732 posts)I have to tell you that my Shingrix I was a bastard. Thought my arm was going to drop off for about a day and a half. On the plus side, the second shot didn't make any impression at all.

(13,036 posts)quicker and result in less pain. I did some arm exercises and that seems to have helped, along w/ the ibuprofen

(9,067 posts)I might look crazy but I don't care. I just swing it around right after for a few minutes then do it periodically thereafter. Still hurts a bit when I sleep on it but not as bad as if I didn't do it.

(23,338 posts)I'll be getting the mega-dose next week. I'm done with the two shingles shots, thankfully. And done with the two pneumonia shots.

(23,338 posts)If you're 65 or older, the pharmacy probably didn't bother asking, they just gave it to you. There can be temporary side effects.

(9,352 posts)It seemed like a larger amount of fluid than last years. Maybe it was the way it was administered.
Whatever, it just felt icky. Only way I can describe it.
Virtually no reaction. Arm was a little warm.

(12,022 posts)Both the first and the second shots put me in bed for 24 hours. Chills, aches, and exhaustion.
I hope it was worth it.

(13,036 posts)but so far other than an achy arm, nada. But it's only been a few hours & hopefully will remain that way.

(14,886 posts)Yuck thanks for the advice onetexan on moving the arm around!
I know of enough people who've had shingles recently, and earlier. They were stunned by the pain. My dad had it too.
I will get the flu one early Oct, then the pneumonia one a bit later .
I sure hope I don't get chills & fever side effects - sorry, don't mean to sound whiny. I've never had a flu shot. I'm 67 and the last time I had the flu was when I was 16. So I've hadn't had chills or a fever since then. Maybe a bit of a fever here and there but not past about 19 yes old.
