The children.

What will be the affects on the little ones? Their development and interactions to others?

I have a great niece who turned one in July. For the first few months of her life she started to know us through our touch. That ended. She has a loving mom and dad, a big sister as well. However what about her developmental skills with anyone but her family in the future. This is going to be huge for our babies. They only know masks and distance.

We see her from a distance and always in mom and dads arms. She cries when she is put down for a moment. She is growing up with a sea of masked faces. This is the new norm. They were here today for a visit, I missed it due to an errand. She was in her car seat when I got back. I knocked at the window to say goodbye. She had tears in her eyes.

I have no kids. I have four niece/ nephews and seven greats. I have been very close to them all. The baby is the first I have been unable to cuddle, do belly kisses and peek a boo is just not the same with a mask on.

Sorry. I am having a bad night.

If this epidemic is controlled a year from now, she will become so close to you. That which is lost becomes more precious. We appreciate the light because of the dark, the food because of the hunger. She will soak up her time with her aunt the minute she can give you a hug again. In the meantime, an example of how to cope with adversity and disappointment.
