On edit:
The fire is out and no evacuation will happen tonight. If nothing else this got me more ready, something Ive been thinking of for awhile.
Its really more of a list, with a bag handy to throw the items in. A few items set out in our dining room, like the cat carrier and some photo albums. I estimate itd take about five minutes to throw all the stuff together, and that includes the pets.
Fires are kinda all over the very outer edges of the metro area but not terribly close. Earlier today I texted a friend noting that the closest fire would have to burn through several urban cities to get here.
Which is true but then a fire broke less than an hour and a half ago out on an island in the middle of the river not too far away as the crow flies with plenty of dry fuel (forested tall trees) in between. Not sure how the fire started but its likely human caused. Took about an hour for the crews to get it under control, thank goodness for the fire boats and the fire trucks.
Not sure Ill sleep tonight.

(15,813 posts)The fire is under control according to the county fire departments twitter page.
I have friends that live further out in the rural part of the county that had to evacuate this afternoon. I just didnt see it as terribly likely that wed have to even consider it here at our house.

(13,575 posts)We often see unlawful camp fires on the island there, and are instructed to call and report.
This one was different. Very big, very dangerous burning up into the tall fir trees.

(15,813 posts)Its the memory of the embers going across the Columbia in the gorge fire a couple of years back- knowing that the height of the fir trees in the fire tonight could mean embers wafting across...

(11,531 posts)Because we were at level 2 evacuation here in Medford. Not out but gone down to 1 so hopefully I will get some sleep. I have a few things in car and suitcase packed, will give it a few days before i unpack.
My hubby was going to leave on trip tomorrow, i talked him into leaving Friday not ready to be alone yet. Funny i was looking forward to being alone before since with covid you have almost no space!
