So, the panic ensued despite this "noble" plan.
I'd guess a major reason it fell (aside from awaiting an overdue correction) was because as the pandemic spun out of control, the leadership vacuum became obvious.
So, if it wanted to prevent a panic, it failed. The panic happened anyway.
Perhaps honesty & assertive actions would have instilled confidence, and we would not have needed to pump trillions into the markets to stabilize them.
Just sayin'.
