I'm less than a mile from the Columbia River and the air quality is very poor. We have windows shut & the a/c & house filter fan on.
So I decide to check the latest fire map. HOLY F@CK!

(2,533 posts)The fan function on a a/c typically draws air from outside so a/c on is what we did. Helps a little this is the worst I've seen. Hopefully someone who actually knows a/c may chime in but I think I got it right.

(24,731 posts)shrub steppe. Lost our home to wildfire in 1994. Many loved ones and friends throughout the PNW.
We seem to be skirting the edge of these fires.
I have a good air cleaner I bought years ago. Maybe you can find one.
My heart aches.
Stay safe.

(261 posts)It is very difficult to be outside for any length of time. The smoke is very acrid and hurts your eyes and lungs. We had pretty bad smoke a couple years ago during the Gorge fire, too. Gresham has just suspended the RV parking rules for the city to allow people who are fleeing the fires to park on our streets.
My daughter and her family live a block from the horrible fire in Sumner, WA that is only 20% contained right now. They are very traumatized. Our grandson thought the glow was lightening and crawled into bed with my daughter and her husband. She got up and looked out the window and saw the whole hillside on fire. The fire and police have their staging operation at the Winco behind them. She saw Gov. Inslee down the street this morning surveying the damage. What a nightmare, but their house survived.
