Trump called him 'my African-American.' His life hasn't been the same since

https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/12/politics/trump-my-african-american-cheadle-rally-blake/index.html

What's happened to Cheadle since that day in 2016, though, shows how tough the Trump campaign's challenge is going to be. For starters, he is no longer Trump's "African-American friend."

Cheadle, 63, a real estate broker and a volunteer at a hospital emergency room, says he is a very different man than the one who went to hear Trump four years ago. He's lost friends and gone into hiding. Trump's shout-out even shook up his love life.

"I was dating a woman and we broke up because of that," he says. "The whole thing was kind of stupid. She was an influential Democrat and she just couldn't handle the pressure of even being seen in public with someone associated with Trump."

Cheadle says he has since lost respect for some Black Republican conservatives. He compares them to ventriloquists' dolls -- puppets employed by powerful white people to mouth political platitudes that hurt Black people.

He also says he was deflated by how the Republican party reacted to the death of Herman Cain, a former Republican presidential candidate. Cain, who was Black, died after contracting coronavirus soon after attending a Trump rally without wearing a mask.

to deflect questions about his death. Beyond that, they seem to think that finding other black people who will serve their ends while exploiting other black people to be a "dime a dozen."

Glad to see this gentleman has seen the light and is speaking out.

...the have black servants. Herman Cain was a tool for the republicans, a can opener if you will that opened up some inroads, albeit few, into the black community.

I don’t recall hearing any republican mourning the loss of who was...they were too busy mourning the loss of what he was. They didn’t speak of him as a person, only as a can opener.

Classic and subtle dehumanizing racist behavior...seeing others as what they are while ignoring who they are.

pretend to have and like black friends.

It's sickening but we're all aware of it (the 'fake' treatment/persona because one is black), and thus, keep a wary eye out on such 'friendly' republicans.

One black friend (I'll call him Steve), who has a catering business, has been approached by such a 'friendly' republican (Mr. X), and asked about doing a catering job? All of us warned Steve to not have the event at Mr. X's house (he's a pig and the house is a mess, have the event at a Hall or other venue) and to charge Mr. X big bucks.

It's never about real friendship or helping
others.

It's just a pretense and a way to show that
they're not relaly racist when they really are.

I had a friend who voted for Trump because
Ben Carson said to and she liked Carson.
That was a very sad moment for me; it ruined
her estimation in my eyes.

We have a lot of rebuilding and new construction to undertake, but we can do it, instead of the constant tearing down of things that trump and his filthy ilk stood for. I'll be glad finally to ignore trump and his ignorant mouth/BS and let government, as it should, resume its good work started under Obama.

Apparently. Giving current "Republicans" credit for ending slavery is a little odd, when they've virtually abandoned anything that any decent Republicans have ever stood for...from the 1860's right on up to now.

I'm appalled at the treatment of Native Americans, but I'm not going to sit out the election until the Whig party makes a comeback. I'll vote for the party that is most likely to make their lives better---the Democratic Party.

But he hasn't made another big decision -- who he's going to vote for in November. He calls himself undecided between Biden and Trump.

"You're asking me to choose between projectile vomit and diarrhea," he says.

pretending to be black/brown Trump supporters, ie 'digital blackface' is what it's called, and it's designed to divide the Dem base and suppress votes.

To be sure there are PoC (conservative, as well as some far-left) who are anti-Dem and buy that message. But it is a message that is mainly spread as propaganda to divide.
