(63,221 posts)I just cannot believe what our reality is right now. Nobody should be supporting this ridiculous, evil clown and yet we have a solid 30-40% of people in our nation who are slavishly devoted to him for some bizarre reason. I honestly feel like I am living in the Twilight Zone.
I keep asking myself "how is this happening?" I simply cannot get my mind around it. Sometimes I feel like I am going mad. How can something be so clear to me, and to so many of us, yet others see the exact opposite.
I don't know how we will exist together. No matter what happens, I do not see this nation coming together as one anytime in the near future.

(9,771 posts)as POTUS. But it never occurred to me that so many would stick by him through it all. So many that he has a credible chance of being reelected. I never thought this blatant BS that one must believe to support him would not seen through my the great majority of Americans. Yet somewhere near 40% of them are not just supporters, but rabid devotees.

(21,240 posts)He threw at me that Obama spent $65,000 on hot dogs! I looked it up on SNOPES and it was false and it was found in an email put out by a group not associated with Obama. I shared the link and he said get it though your head Snopes is fake and owned by corrupt Democrats. My response was A lost soul and I would pray for him. You are mislead by the wrong people on the internet. He told me I was asleep and would soon discover that MF45 is telling the truth.
I almost fell off my couch reading that.
I responded back Id rather eat a live cockroach than support Hitler 2.0
His response Democrats are the Nazis!
I stopped responding back as I have learned never argue with a fool.

(7,644 posts)Actually, a whole bunch of people need to grow up.
We all know the education system is to blame for a good deal of this as they just don't teach critical thinking skills unless and until they get into freshman college level courses even when I went to school here in Fl back in the 60's and 70's.
Now it's, "Parsimony, what's that some kind of soup?
Their law is: only a more complex and twisted CT can explain the original CT.

(21,240 posts)He took a couple of classes in junior class thats his education.
I wanted to laugh at him when he told me he knows more than me. 64 college graduate in business and social science and in 2003 I got my teaching credential. I have thought about going for a masters but I dont want any debt at this stage in my life outside of a mortgage Im close to paying off. I told him that as I get older I realize I dont know as much as I thought and learning is lifelong. But at 23 according to him he is the smartest person in the room because he read it on the internet!

(7,644 posts)But you know the metal process humans have to go through to see the light and it's like deprogramming a cult member. Heck, it IS a deprograming that's needed really.
Most don't make it past the denial phase though and you can't kidnap them like pro deprogramers do and it's illegal to do so at that age anyway I do believe.
We've all got one in our circle somewhere and this is going to be an ongoing problem that may well have to see its members die off for most part in order for IT to decrease in size and volume. Thankfully, most polls indicate that a large majority of younger citizens do not support Trump or this hateful worldview.
I sure hope they're right.

(22,191 posts)like this. He's 23 for gods sake. Most kids are getting out of college by then and moving into careers, etc. that they went to college for. And what is he doing? Funny you mention the hot dogs, perhaps he's going to be a hot dog vendor?
What other nonsense will he believe? You should tell him this, that everyone's mocking his belief at the 60,000+ hot dogs story, it's a good one, but a false one of course. Does he believe everything that he reads? Obviously.
It's nice of you that you're trying to install somewhat of a thinking mode into this young person, to think about the things he reads on the Internet, and whether to believe them or not.
Remember the old saying 'don't believe everything you read'? It seems more true today w/ the Internet than ever before. It's scary that everyone w/ a keyboard can stir up so much garbage and crap w/ just a few unsubstantiated words, which is why one needs to be especially alert in the age of the Internet.
Good luck to you and your family, I feel like you're just getting into the start of 'good' things w/ this guy (the 23 year old), who's going to find out pretty rapidly I think that life doesn't reward the ignorant, and good things really don't come to such persons by simply sitting around doing nothing.

(81,561 posts)Hed want the best because his looks are his priority, and he does love spending money on himself. So the suit would be expensive. Bragging rights, dontchaknow.
But I bet he doesnt pay for them or any necessary tailoring for a better fit. I bet he demands freebies - just for the privilege of supplying the wannabe emperor with some new (visible) clothes. Besides, hed want to have you think how much more costly his suits are than anything youd ever possibly have.
Domination, remember? His self-flattering lordship always has the best everything.
Ligyron
(7,644 posts)When he lifts his arms up any, the tailoring really becomes obvious. His coat is as wide as it is long and I suppose this camouflages or hides somehow, or to some degree at least, his bulky midsection, pot belly, fat rolls and all.
But if it doesn't fool lil' ol' me, then I'm not sure how effective it is, especially when there are photos of him golfing where his clothing can't hide much of that. I think those type photos are rather rare however and there may well be agents hidden from view with orders to kidnap or shoot to kill any paparazzi attempting to document this or his lack of any skill at golfing and any of the cheating that surely goes on as a result.
"Okay, put me down for a birdie boy. This is a par five hole right? Then wait, maybe it should be an eagle. Yes, that what it is, put me down for yet another one of those!"
Eagle my ass. I'd put him down as a Dodo.

(17,087 posts)some of his base have wigs
some have fake tans
some have coke noses
some wear girdles
some wear lifts
some wear depends
some wear cheap suits
so like Stephen King's book, Necessary Things, imeached traitor has one thing each of his supporters need. He makes the shortcomings in each of his base acceptable, things like disrespect, disregard, big mouth, lies, cheating, bullying and on and on. When one of his base supporters catch on, the Necessary Thing is ugly, depressing and shameful.
As an adjective, base means low, sordid, immoral, vulgar, tawrdy, cheap.
Apologies in advance to Stephen King. I read the book years ago.

(121 posts)This tweet is painfully and tragically brilliant. How is it possible that such a grotesque fool manages to have such a solid, unwavering support? At least 45 percent of the US population wallows in ignorance, paranoia, racism and stupidity. They actually belong in Torquemada's Spain, and managed to avoid modernity, reason and rationalilty all together. The Renaissance has passed them by as it never happened. Add to them a few million more greedy, narcissitic bastards on top of our idiotic, feudal Electoral College system, and they have a 50/50 chance of winning presidential elections even if they ran a blind rabid three legged badger as their candidate.
It's very depressing, and would probably last another 25 years or so, but I doubt this nation has 25 more years, as it is on the abyss of tyranny, fascism and disintegration right now.
