Tropical Depression 19 forecast to become hurricane Monday over northeast Gulf Coast

A tropical depression skimming along the southwest Florida coast Saturday is expected to gain hurricane strength late Monday along the north-central Gulf Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center, posing no apparent threat to Texas.

Forecasters predict the storm, which could become Tropical Storm Sally later Saturday, will blow across the southeastern and eastern Gulf of Mexico through Sunday before continuing west and intensifying over the north-central Gulf Coast late Sunday into Monday, according to the hurricane center.

"This is expected to be a slow-moving system that will likely continue to produce heavy rainfall and considerable flooding near the central Gulf Coast through the middle of next week," the hurricane center wrote in an update.

The storm does not pose a threat to the Houston area, according to Eric Berger, a meteorologist from Space City Weather. Confidence is high that the storm will make landfall between southeastern Louisiana and the Florida panhandle, likely on Tuesday.

So it looks like this will be a first time. Oh well, I hope it doesn't build up a lot of strength and I hope I'm on the west side of it. I especially hope we don't lose power. But most of all, I hope no one dies or is seriously injured.
