COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) The grandson of U.S. President Warren G. Harding and his lover, Nan Britton, went to court in an effort to get the Republicans remains exhumed from the presidential memorial where they have lain since 1927.
James Blaesing told an Ohio court that he is seeking Hardings disinterment as a way to establish with scientific certainty that he is the 29th presidents blood relation.
The dispute looms as benefactors prepare to mark the centennial of Hardings 1920 election with site upgrades and a new presidential center in Marion, the Ohio city near which he was born in 1865. Blaesing says he deserves to have his story, his mothers story and his grandmothers story included within the hallowed halls and museums in this town.
A branch of the Harding family has pushed back against the suit filed in May not because they dispute Blaesings ancestry, but because they dont.
They argue they already have accepted as fact DNA evidence that Blaesings mother, Elizabeth Ann Blaesing, was the daughter of Harding and Britton and that she is set to be acknowledged in the museum. Harding had no other children.

Not paywalled
snip-"Dr. Harding and his cousin, Abigail Harding, decided to pursue the matter and made contact with James Blaesing, a grandson of Ms. Britton and son of the daughter she claimed to have conceived with the president. Testing by AncestryDNA, a division of Ancestry.com, the genealogical website, found that Mr. Blaesing was a second cousin to Peter and Abigail Harding, meaning that Elizabeth Ann Blaesing had to be President Hardings daughter."
snip--"Mr. Blaesing said the family lived with scorn for decades. They were followed, their house was broken into and items were stolen to try to prove the relationship was a lie. I went through this growing up in school, said Mr. Blaesing, 65, now a construction contractor in Portland, Ore. They belittled him and her.
The tests, he said, finally vindicate his grandmother. I wanted to prove who she was and prove everyone wrong, he said."
So 5 years ago Blaesing was happy with the DNA test, now he's not?
🤔 that dude has too much time on his hands
