As do nearly every morning from March through November, I went outside early this morning to spend an hour or two working in the garden. I enjoy this quiet time spent planting, weeding, mulching, and just being outdoors in the quiet morning.
Today is a particularly clear, crisp autumn day with low humidity and temperatures in the high 40s. Just perfect. Except the sky is white.
Crisp autumn days normally bring the bluest skies of the year. One of my memories of 9/11 was of the perfect fall weather with deep blue skies. I thought the world would end that day. It didnt.
Perhaps the world is ending nowgood bits of it are on fire or flooding. The sky is white today because the west coast is on fire. But today doesnt feel like the world is ending. Today feels mundane and ordinary as I pull weeds in the garden. Except the sky is white.

Our skies are white too, and the sun was a baleful orange when it rose. I'm thankful that we're not choking on smoke and ashes like those who live near the wildfires. .

(3,370 posts)Like you said, this is perfect fall weather. Temps in the 60's, low dewpoints, low humidity. No clouds. We should have bright blue skies, but they are milky/hazy and the sun is barely shining. My eyes and nose were pretty irritated on my walk this am. I don't know if it's the smokey skies or allergies (goldenrod season) or both.

(5,042 posts)It should be a clear cool blue sky sunny windy day, but theres just a dull haze as the sun fights thru it.

(6,526 posts)There's a little bluish tinged patch directly overhead, but otherwise it's white. A couple days ago, the sun at sundown is reddish and muted. I guess the smoke is now fully entrenched.
