I am a moderate but I am a life-long straight ticket democratic voter as of today

Before today, I still long for the days that we get a reasonable republican party that one day I can possible choose between. But after today and the republican party's lust for power that they break all of the rules and go back to their own words, I can not see myself ever to vote for a republican again. It is more than how I lean on the political spectrum. This is not normal, this is not moral, this is against everything that is American.

I am sadden that this country has a republican party that is so corrupt and power-hungry......

Lets fight back together and eliminate this republican party. We cannot continue with this republican party.

There are few here who are far left on a global definition. Seldom do I read a posts wanting government control or ownership of businesses.

Even ‘right wing’ parties in Europe are not opposed to using the government to insure their citizens don’t live in abject poverty. There are no political parties in Europe, that I am aware of, that favor eliminating universal healthcare.

Welcome to DU. I used to be a republican. As did many here. Then I grew up.

Before today, as I said, I still wanted a "normal" republican party that I can one day maybe vote for. But after today, I can no longer vote for this republican party ever. The republican party in the US is just so crazy. Like you said, no political party wants to eliminate universal healthcare. They complains about the cost but they don't dare dream about eliminating it. Somehow, it's not even a starter for universal healthcare in the US.

The largest impediment, but by no means the only one, is the Senate.

It is totally unrepresentative of the nation as a whole.

Even some of my conservative ‘friends’, at least those who have traveled, support universal affordable healthcare.

But it will, without a doubt, require the wealthy of us to pay more in taxes. If Biden pounds on healthcare like we did in 18 he will win. He doing a good job of that now.

And nothing will ignite our economy like insuring we won’t go bankrupt due to medical costs.

It isn't perfect but nothing in the world is. I could see the problem of republicans trying to defund it and the constant budget fights that we will have even when we get universal healthcare.

Somehow, my parents are all-in on employer healthcare that we have because they don't know about the medical bankruptcies that happens in the US. They think they will get SS and Medicare and they will be fine. And they are Trump voters.

Tell them Medicare is the largest Universal Healthcare system in the world. Hell, tell the they are loving socialist medicine. Which it is not at all.

Socialism is the public ownership of the means of production. Medicine is a service. Like your fire department.

They just think their employer healthcare will transition well into Medicare that they will not have a problem with healthcare. So they don't need universal healthcare. The irony is that my dad lost his job due to COVID and he won't be eligible for Medicare for another few years and I don't see him getting a similar job any time soon.

Though, they hate Obamacare because it is expensive and they hate lazy leechers taking their tax dollars. I just can't understand them because they are all over the place with their beliefs. Basically, they think they made it in the US because they are a little more well off than they were in our old country. They were literally penniless when they came to the US. But they are still below average when it comes to wealth in the US and one medical condition will bankrupt them. They just don't know it and thought that Medicare will cover it all.

Make Republicans Sane Again (MRSA).

When we hand the keys to the car over, we need it to not be a rage filled, homicidal drunk driver with no training.
