RBG's passing and the absolute hypocrisy of Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in their haste to replace her is going to turn out to be a Big Shit Sandwich for their caucus and the reelection chances of Senators Collins and Graham.
Most Americans other than the extreme tRump worshipers out there know hypocrisy when they see it and this is the height of hypocrisy.
The Turd-le set precedent when he blocked Merrick Garland and now that the shoe is on the other foot he wants to reverse field. This will destroy his chances of retaining the Senate.
Also, make no mistake if the Republican pond scum do this; we will put the filibuster in the ash bin of history and we will add four progressive judges to the SCOTUS.
They will not benefit one iota with this bullshit! They are truly playing with dynamite here.

(852 posts)I think this situation hurts Reps more than it hurts Dems.
Not only should Dems expand the courts, but we should give statehood to Washington DC and Puerto Rico.

(17,647 posts)They may be bringing in the person who will settle the elections. They have no honor and no morals so they will not worry about the hypocrisy.
The Republicans will do it because they can do it, and there is nothing we can do to prevent it. Their voting base will cheer from the rooftops to support the action. I do not believe that it will move the election chains in either direction. There are only seven people in the country that have not made up their minds about who they will vote for, and five of them are in a coma.
If the nominee accepts the job, then that is an indication that they have no respect for fairness decency in governing. It will be a statement that they were willing to come to the seat through political chicanery. We can expect a modern copy, male or female of a Roland Freisler, loyal to the Republican party, not the nation.
A right wing activist court will do far more to serve the continuing American transition to Fascism than any elected officials including the President. McConnell and Trump are making his mark on history and it is a swastika. .

The only thing that is in question is if Dems can FINALLY go Carpi Diem if come November 4 they have the full slate of POTUS, Senate and the House queued up for January.
No matter how much Ds play by the standard norms of conduct the Rs will cast as as baby killing sons of satan and the media and middle part of the country will indulge it. WTF continue to play by a set of rules the Rs completely ignore if we still are cast as unamerican antichristian scubags?

(19,264 posts)He always has. He always win. The future is uncertain. Biden might not win (I think he will), the Democrats might not take the Senate, they might not have the votes if anyone breaks ranks to remove the cloture vote, they might not have the votes to expand the Supreme Court.
This is how Mitch has ALWAYS worked. He doesn't navel gaze about the effects years down the road. If he has an opertunity to move the country redder TODAY he takes that TODAY and worries about the future tomorrow.
In a poll in 2016, 73% of Americans felt holding up the vote on Garland was bad. They still voted for Trump and Republican Senators. Someone thinking something is bad and thinking it is bad enough for them to flip their vote are two different things.

(51,025 posts)a single shit about fairness and about not being obvious, evil hypocrites.
That includes the trump base Republican voter.
I know it sounds like I am using hyperbole here, but I'm not. They don't care.
Lindsay will vote to install the new justice.
Collins will vote to install the new justice.
Their supporters will love them for doing it.
The new justice will be installed.
We know who they are. They keep showing us. They don't hold back. We really need to stop ignoring what they show us over and over and over again.

"It's okay because this time the President and the Senate majority are in the same party".
Oh, well, okay then.
This only hurts their candidates if it motivates more turnout for us and we don't know that yet.

In fact it appears to help them with their base.
