WASHINGTON Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday vowed to hold a vote on President Trumps Supreme Court nominee before the November election following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
President Trumps nominee for this vacancy will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate, McConnell (R-Ky.) said on the floor of the chamber, warning of a cultural war over filling the influential role.
McConnell says there is overwhelming precedent for the Senate to act quickly on a nomination. The Senate has more than sufficient time to process a nomination. History and process make that perfectly clear

(32,017 posts)He didnt say that. He MEANS before Biden is inaugurated, and its possible that Moscow Mitch could pull that off, but before the election? Thats very unlikely, and thats not what he said.

(26,783 posts)Bloomberg just reported that Trump had called for that and:
Stevens could have been confirmed twice between now and Nov. 3, with time to spare, McConnell said. The Senate has more that sufficient time to process a nomination. History and precedent make that perfectly clear.

(7,715 posts)I hope the D's oppo research team can find some stuff on the appointee for starters.
Also, Joe/Kamala/Nancy/Chuck etc can harp on the utter hypocrisy of this. That should enrage additional voters.
This might be a good signal that Moscow Mitch thinks he has enough votes to ram this through, putting aside Collins and Murkowski.
Assuming he does, start a renewed investigation of the appointee on January 20, 2021 after we win at all levels to make sure the appointee didn't perjure herself (and I believe Trump said it would be woman) during the confirmation process. These things are still kinda' of important.

(8,347 posts)He did not say before the election, thankfully -at least not in any of the quoted text in the article. And he was insinuating it would be filled in the same amount of time as Ginsburg's nomination was (42 days). There are 42 days until the election, and he still doesn't seem sure that he has the votes to confirm a nominee. It is unlikely although not implausible that he will confirm anybody before the election.

(8,347 posts)as that would mean he definitely has the votes. The fact that he is still wishy washy about it makes, me think enough Senators have not been clear about how they would vote on this yet.

(26,783 posts)The fact that he's being wishy washy probably means that they haven't decided yet whether before/after helps/hurts their electoral chances the most.

(26,783 posts)I think that, like most potentially controversial votes, they know exactly how many they can let off the reservation to assist in keeping their own seats... but could get any one of them back if the nomination rested on it.

(6,829 posts)No hearings, no meetings with senators. It's going to happen very fast.
#Traitor was going to announce his candidate tomorrow but obviously someone yanked back on that bullshit since RBG hasn't even been buried yet. That's your 1st clue they're not going to be decent about this
