IF THE GOP messes with the Electors, for sure we need to get rid of the Electoral College. (Original Post) Boogiemack Sep 2020 OP
Ok, just line up 2/3 of each congressional chamber and 38 states. tritsofme Sep 2020 #1

Making DC a state would give us an additional 3 EVs along with Puerto Rico (6 new EVs total).

Bringing in urban centric states would be easy.

Or once we take back enough state governments, just pass the EV compact. Even better!

I think the case for DC is pretty clear, but I don’t think there is any true consensus in Puerto Rico, let alone some of the other territories that I’ve seen discussed. If these territories become states and subsequently seek self determination or secession, it puts us in a very difficult spot. There needs to be a clear consensus for statehood before it’s seriously considered, or the endeavor becomes a form of colonialism.

Once in 2012 and another time in 2017. The first they voted for statehood by 65% the second was 97%. Both elections had flaws but the results still indicated where the majority seemed to stand. There is another in November and expect it to be similar to the last few. Their leadership in goverent badly is trying to get statehood -taking all steps needed, and while a vocal group is against it, there clearly seem to be far more in favor.

I’m not against statehood for Puerto Rico, but it should be done because there is consensus among Puerto Ricans, not because of our anticipated political benefit.

But their elected government is also entirely for statehood. Legally if the US grants them statehood at this point, it will likely happen if this n xt vote goes the right way.

Even if they can't do anything, proves that is needed. And also gives a robust case for stacking the courts -err "balancing" the courts and bringing in new states.

Each political party selects the electors for that state. It's not just one generic slate of electors. There's one slate for the Democrats, another for the Republicans, and separate ones for each party on the ballot in each state.

Please, please learn just what takes place. And stop putting nonsense out there.

Especially if, as is extremely likely, Biden has an overwhelming majority.

You are sounding just like the Republicans who are convinced the Democrats will steal the election.

In 2012, Donald Trump tweeted that the electoral college system was a 'disaster for a democracy.'

After losing the popular vote, President-elect Donald Trump has decided that the Electoral College is a pretty smart way to elect a president after all.
