General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't give a flying fuck about the officers who got shot in Louisville. I'm totally against what
happened to them, or the use of any violence, but only because I think it is counterproductive to the BLM cause and the struggle to preserve democracy in America.
The police in this country are earning the increased risk that they're putting themselves under, and I simply can't feel bad for them.
I expect that this will probably be deleted, and that is completely fair, but I feel like screaming tonight, and I needed to let it out.
I am completely opposed to violence against police. But I hate them.

(2,218 posts)It's uncomfortable to be here, but we have an enemy who demands that we act outside our principals, just to survive.
It's a conundrum that each of us has to decide, and it is not easy.

American taxpayers spend $107,575,000,000 more on police than on public housing.
Defund the police. Invest in communities.

But I agree that is way too much to spend on policing. I guess it's fitting for an emerging police state.

(2,955 posts)The bad laws that sent them into the situation are at fault. No knock raids should NEVER be used for drugs. Terrorists/kidnappers/active shooters/etc? Sure. Drugs? No.

(1,823 posts)The investigators who sought a no-knock warrant, the judge who signed it, the legislators who passed the law allowing it.
Imo most people havent actually read any real in depth details about this case and just sound off based on dramatic headlines and social media misinformation.

You mean the ones that said they knocked and announced themselves as police... after going to the trouble to get a no-knock warrant?
Yeah, heck, why not have em over for a beer. Theyre probably good guys.

We ... REALLY ... need to have a come to Jesus talk with democratic mayors about the cops in this country.

(26,584 posts)Everything that I've seen suggests that there's a culture of bad policing in Louisville, and that all the police there are complicit, at least to some degree.

The one who went to the press and whined about how "thugs" are allowed to "get in your face and yell at you" when you "make a mistake during one of the most stressful times in your career" and otherwise demonstrated he had NO REMORSE WHATSOEVER?

Stupid law, stupid police. No justice. I don't think they really care. People will only take so much before they start fighting back.

(32,704 posts)everytime there's a major protest against police brutality / violence.
1. Initiate looting
2. A cop gets shot
3. Lump protesters, looters and cop shooters/killers together.
4. Crack down hard and silence any remaining protesters.
It starts to feel orchestrated at a certain point--like a way to hold on to power. And it works every time. This is bigger than any one police department. There's a wide scale, highly organized and coordinated effort to protect the blue wall of silence at all costs.
