The election is safe and secure. Don't believe the Republicans lies, don't disenfranchise youself

Look, I am aware that US elections aren't run 100% perfectly. There are issues and archaic rules that cause problems. But overall, the election is safe and secure. The one person who benefits if you believe it can be easily stolen or compromised is Donald Trump. He wants you to be discouraged and think there is no point in voting because you think he has total power to corrupt the election. He doesn't. He can fuck with it around the margins slightly but otherwise, we are as safe to vote now and to trust the election results as we were in 2008, 2012, fucking 1956, 1992, 2018, whenever. Nothing has changed other than some bluster and empty, vague threats by a con man with his back to the wall. Vote on election day, vote early in person, vote by mail. Just vote and know it will be a free and fair election. Have faith and don't let Trump's lies and threats ever influence or discourage you. That's all he has are mind games and cons.

On to election day and onward to a Biden presidency!

His only chance is to try to make us give up and not vote. He don’t know us, do he?

Why do you think there are suddenly tons of leaks and sound bites from Trump taking about how easily the election can be fucked with? It's a campaign strategy, not a legitimate plan to do any of these things we heard about today. It's going to fail because he is just going to freak people out even more, which will increase turn out. But he really has nothing left.

because he'll just fuck with it so there's no point in voting at all. He is blustering and threatening in order to discourage and confuse people; don't let him do that. Vote in whatever way works best for you, but just fucking vote! And encourage everyone else to vote, too.

8. If Anything, News About Trump Underscores Importance of Senate Races. GOTV!
Wed Sep 23, 2020, 10:39 PM
Sep 2020

I would not put anything pass Trump regarding the Atlantic story about the Trump campaign trying to explore ways to bypass election results. However, this does not apply to Senate races.

The 17th Amendment provides that Senators are election by the popular vote of each state. There is no theoretical opportunity to bypass the popular vote:

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each State shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the State legislatures.

When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.

This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

This also might be why some Republicans like Ben Sasse have called for the repeal of the 17th Amendment.

Nonetheless, the one real check on Trump being able to hijack the Presidency by convincing Republican Governors and Legislatures of throw out the popular vote is to elect a Democratic Senate.

Far from suppressing the vote, we should use this news to campaign harder for Senate seats, because Trump and Republicans might be tempted to try to hold on to power if they think that they will not be held accountable.

He obviously doesn't know the issue of electors recently came before the SC and what they decided is...

"And second, the Court’s decision reinforces the validity of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Under National Popular Vote, states that combine for at least 270 electoral votes agree to award their electors to the presidential candidate who wins the most individual votes across the nation. (Fifteen states and the District of Columbia, totaling 196 electoral votes, have already passed the measure.)

In the 18 states currently without faithless elector laws, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact would operate in a manner identical to the system that they have been using for over 200 years. In these states (which currently use the state-by-state winner-take-all method of awarding electoral votes), the presidential electors are chosen by the political party whose presidential candidate receives the most popular votes inside the state, and there are no additional requirements placed upon the elector"

But you're absolutely right that nobody should let the prospect of that keep them from voting. It's all the more reason to get out there and make sure we deliver a clear repudiation of this corrupt and indecent administration.

The other issue at play in a story like this, and the other reason that it's worth covering, is that even if trump's efforts to discredit the election fail in the legal sense and biden is installed, the crap that he would pull would provide more fodder to a certain segment of the right which has become increasingly comfortable with engaging in disruptive and violent tactics against people they see as their enemies. And that elevates a particular social disorder/chaos that isn't going to go away immediately once Biden is inaugurated. And that's a problem. It becomes an even bigger problem if elected republican party officials are willing to explicitly or tacitly support the attempts to undermine the results. That prospect is much likelier in a closely contested election. If, on the other hand, Biden gets a 100+ EV margin and a significant popular vote margin, and the likes of Joni Ernst and Dan Sullivan and David Perdue and (god willing!) Lindsey Graham are sent packing, then there's not nearly as much cover for such fringe voices to emerge into the mainstream.

Which, again of course, is all the more reason to vote (and DONATE!) so that, as you say, we can march "On to election day and onward to a Biden presidency!"

Requested an absentee ballot in July. Received it Monday (VA starts mailing ballots when early voting starts).
Early voting started last Friday.
After the disaster stories about the Post Office started coming out, I decided I’d rather vote in person.
It was smooth and easy - and more crowded than I expected!

To start with, all this shit is not going to convince Democrats to not vote. That is bullshit, a republican talking point. THEY want us to give up, and will do everything to convince us it is a lost cause. We are PISSED TO THE MAX. We ARE going to crawl over the proverbial broken glass, to vote.

Then look at the ballots. There are two ways for there to be ballots. Electronic, and real/paper.

If you think Putin and his intelligence/computer hackers haven't figured a way to work the electronic vote, you probably still believe the russians only broke into to two US states' electronic voter systems/databases during the 2016 election. We now know they targeted ALL 50 states, with varying degrees of success. Only THEY know if they obtained info on how to actually do real damage. But we can probably safely assume they are WAY ahead of us in that arena. They have had 4 years to hone their abilities. What have WE been doing, other than to say "that's not possible". And how has THAT tactic worked for us so far?

As far as mail-in ballots, DeJoy wasn't put there for shits and giggles. He did what he needed to do. Yes the courts said stop. Yes the courts said to undo the damage.

What has he actually done? Nothing. No destroyed mail routers have been re-assembled. Mail is still backed up.

We are now aware of this and know what to look out for, but to blithely infer that everything will be ok, is ludicrous. It will NOT be a free and fair election.

The question is how to address THAT little detail.

Sure, we must GOTV, and be very wary. The party should have lawyers and counter-poll watchers in every polling location. We must be on maximum alert for any and every possible way of cheating, suppression, intimidation.

But after all the electronic votes are tallied, they still are reported electronically to state voting headquarters. NO ONE knows what can be done to those little electron data bits by hackers who have been training YEARS for this very scenario. Will the final votes going into the states' total tallies be compared to each and every individual touch screen/scanner? Too many assume that "those numbers can't be altered". There should be obvious discrepancies if the numbers don't match. I am afraid we won't even check until it is too late.

No. I am NOT believing this election is going to be anywhere close to "free" and "fair".

And we have to be prepared for whatever comes after the steal.

So what are his latest outrages?

Bypass the ballots, go to the supreme court. A court he is using every ounce of leverage he has, to stack.

Force republican state legislatures to "fix" the electors, so he will win.

Then of course there is his "piece de resistance", working his knuckledragging, racist, white supremacists supporters into a frenzy, causing them to take to the streets and TAKE OVER THIS COUNTRY. (While we democrats sit idly by, with great wailing and gnashing of teeth, wringing our cowardly hands... because we are...... COWARDS)

OK. You win. Nothing to worry about.

15. Those are legit worries, but there are many things we're doing.
Thu Sep 24, 2020, 12:18 AM
Sep 2020

1-Biden has created a 'legal war room' to deal with the issue. Both he an Hillary have asserted that this will not be like 2000 where Al Gore conceded, but we will fight to the end.
2-the Dem party has lawyers on the ground in all of these states. It should be noted that most of the rulings (Kanye, Greens, drop boxes, etc) have gone our way thus far.
3-Bloomberg's hawkfish operation, his team has gamed out all of the scenarios, and is ready to rock.
4-many voting rights activsts/groups like Stacey Abrams and Beto, working hard on this.

So we're doing all of that, but the only way it becomes an issue is if it is close. If we turnout heavily and it's not close Trump will go away as fast as he can, as he is a coward who can't take losing. Same goes for his base, who talk big but are mainly middle aged wannabe Rambos who won't do shit.
