General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI've posted two OPs about how panicked the GOP in Texas is.

I'm continuing to get GOP campaign emails. More and more requests for contributions. Today I got one from the TX GOP and one from Newt Gingrich. I'm getting 4-6 a day! Never have I gotten this kind of solicitation from the GOP! In my memory they never did voter registration drives or GOTV efforts much less this craven pleading for money! The polls show Biden behind by 4% BUT polls use past voter records so the 1.65 Million new registered voters aren't being queried. I have to believe that a million of them are Ds as the Rs don't really know how to recruit (never having done it) and Beto's group has contacted more than a million new Texan transplants who were registered Ds in their previous state.
It's gonna' be a grunt but it just might happen!

(7,447 posts)I'm doing my part...already convinced a Texas Trump voter not to vote for him and might have her towards Biden...working on a Cali Republican transplant to not only vote Biden here in Texas but talk to some of her won't vote for Trump but won't vote for Biden friends in AZ.

(18,402 posts)Asking for contributions and using scare headers with lots of exclamation points. So what? Does it mean theyre panicking? Both parties do this constantly.
My question is why you are getting emails from Republicans. Thats never happened to me. Ever.

(14,559 posts)system in place. I'm talking Texas state parties. Yeah I hear from state D candidates too, but in my memory the Rs in Texas have been so secure they never even bothered. This is new behavior and frankly they aren't very good at it. Offering an 800% match before midnight? That's blatantly false on it's face! It's simply not possible. Then the following day offering a 700% match before midnight? In both cases they're asking for $5 donations, also a new thing.
This is new.

(10,155 posts)I have emailed both my Senators, Cruz and Cornyn, complaining about their votes and my House Representative complaining about his refusal to hold a town hall for anyone but his rich Republican donors. As a result I get emails from people in both parties because once your name is out there it gets shared with everyone. And Democratic groups are just as bad as Republicans with their emails trying to get you to donate. The sky is always falling for both.

(18,402 posts)I've always lived in blue states (though we did briefly have a Republican senator here in Illinois, and I wrote to ask about some vote once; they got my email address, but I quickly unsubscribed. Why would I want to get mail from someone who was voting the opposite of what I politely requested?).
Quite a few years ago, I was asked to participate in a phone focus group from the DCCC to discuss fundraising emails (this was when they were still relatively new). There were maybe 15 people on the conference call. They went around getting everyone's input, and when I said "I'd be most willing to donate if I were told how the money was going to be spentsay, on campaign staff, office rental, etc."and my suggestion was met with dead silence.
So then they started testing different messaging on us for email headers and themes: everyone (except for me) loved, loved, loved the most hair-on-fire ones: Bush is a Poopy Head!! They Will Start Six More Wars!
Sigh, it's never ended. I guess that's what people want. Me, I almost never respond to the emails I get, and I get tons every day, from every organization and candidate. When I want to donate, I go straight to the web site. I don't want to encourage this barrage.

(28,895 posts)I do get a LOT of texts from Dems and progressive
organizations though.
I never donate to soliciting texts.
I choose and make my donations myself.

(11,675 posts)Even if it doesn't it's forcing them to spend time, money and resources in a state that should've been a shoe in for them. That's not a bad thing.

(984 posts)I live in San Antonio, and somehow I got on the Trump campaign's mailing list. I've seen a steady increase in emails from various iterations of the campaign--Trump, Pence, Lara Trump, Trump Finance, etc.--but they're all from the same source. I don't ever read them, but the subject lines reek of desperation.
