Be cause we as liberals tend to have core values and ethics, we maybe assume that others have them too. Carlson will not feel any awkwardness about this situation at all. He has no shame because he has no underlying core.

When I was growing up, a lot of my friends were planning to get their degrees in business, then on to their MBA. While I have worked in retail and business, I knew that it was not the place for me. Now there are a TON of ethical business people out there and I don't want to make a blanket statement. It just has been my belief that in business, your goal is to sell, to get money. That is the goal. You can make a great product and provide great service, but ultimately, to make money you have to oversell. You have to convince people that your product is THE BEST product, even if it isn't. Basically, eventually, you may have to lie or not be completely honest.

To me, I could not do that. I wasn't able to see the dollar as the key to my success. I felt that for me, the value is whether you can help improve a person's life. Jeans, or a t-shirt, or a newer fancier car can make you feel good, but they likely do not improve your life demonstrably. Anyway, I am ranting.

Bottom line is that there are people for whom money and power are the goal and they can (if they have any to begin with) bury their principles, their moral and ethical underpinning, in order to get that paycheck. Carlson doesn't really even need the money as he is the heir to the Swanson Food fortune. He gets off on the power and celebrity. He is willing to be known as a liar and shill for that.

I take it it's something where Fox doesn't want to be held accountable for Carlson's bullshit, while they continue to make money from his bullshit.

The side of Evil loses one...

Nice.

Do Fox News viewers think Tucker Carlson tells them the truth? Are they, in fact, reasonable? The federal judge, Mary Kay Vyskocil, who herself was appointed to the federal bench by Trump nine months ago, dismissed the case, citing Carlson’s First Amendment protections. That is, Vyskocil bought the argument Fox News was pushing that Carlson is, first and foremost, not a provider of “the news” as we know it, or “facts” as we commonly understand them, and his audience knows this. They’re apparently in on the gag. Fox News doesn’t label Carlson’s speech parody because that’s embarrassing for a company with the word news in its name to admit; it’s not factual journalism because that implies some responsibility for the credibility of the information that you spew. Instead, Fox News lawyers claim, Carlson is not “stating actual facts” but simply engaging in “non-literal commentary.” I couldn’t have described Carlson or Fox News better myself.
