Putin says Russia and U.S. should agree not to meddle in each other's elections

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-usa-putin-idUSKCN26G1LJ

MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin called on Friday for an agreement between Russia and the United States to guarantee not to engage in cyber-meddling in each other’s elections.

In a statement ahead of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3, Putin called for a reset between Russia and the United States and said he wanted an agreement between the two countries to prevent incidents in cyberspace.

“(I propose)... exchanging guarantees of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, including electoral processes, including using information and communication technologies and high-tech methods,” he said.

Moscow’s relations with Washington are at post-Cold War lows as the election looms.

U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election with the aim of tilting it in Donald Trump’s favour, including by hacking into the campaign of his rival Hillary Clinton. Moscow denies that charge.

He's setting up a Biden mea culpa, and leverage the tenet of forgiveness.

This is the Both Sides Are Doing It excuse to remove or redirect fault from Putin and his administration.

However, since both sides are currently doing it, it's GAME ON for 2020 election tampering.

and that there will be hell to pay when Biden takes charge.

Although more than likely it is all smoke and mirrors BS.

But not due to hollow promises from Putin. He is not about to call off his trolls and hackers during this election. A real agreement would not be formalized in public, it would be an understanding that each side would refrain if the other side did also, knowing full well that interference would not stay undetected and retaliation for it would be certain.

uncharacteristically transparent. Could be a reality forced response to Biden’s warning of a few weeks ago, and his instincts of self survival. Either way tRump will surely fail to see it as foreshadowing his doom.

I've had the opportunity to talk to several online and they're fucking nuts, they're even more fanatical with Putin than Trumpsters are with their dear leader. Cult of personality never really died out in Russia.

In my travels around Europe, I’ve found Russians to be generally obnoxious and unpleasant people. Never turn your back on them, either. I liked it a lot better during communism when they weren’t really allowed to roam. Now you see them all over the place.
