TX-03: DCCC Chairwoman Bustos Names Lulu Seikaly to 'Red to Blue' Program

DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos announced today that Lulu Seikaly has been named to the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue program.

Seikaly has earned a spot on the Red to Blue program by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization and fundraising. Beyond her record of service and demonstrated ability to build a winning campaign infrastructure, she has an authentic message that connects with voters in her district and deep ties to the diverse communities she aims to serve.

“Lulu Seikaly represents the future of Texas: she’s a proud first-generation American, attorney, small business advocate and a fresh voice for North Texans,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos said. “Unlike Congressman Van Taylor, Lulu will always put North Texans first, not the interests of wealthy campaign donors. I look forward to helping Lulu make history as the first woman to represent this district and Texas’ first Arab-American congresswoman.”

Described by the Cook Political Report as “a suburban melting pot and a ticking time bomb for the GOP,” Texas’ 3rd Congressional District touts the highest number of college graduates of any seat currently represented by a Republican: 53.9% of the district. Additionally, the district has sizeable and growing communities of color: 10.1% Hispanic, 10.1% Black, 11.1% AAPI. Obama won just 34.7% of the major party vote in 2012, while Clinton earned 42.6% in 2016 and Beto O’Rourke came within 3 points of winning the seat in 2018. Recent DCCC/Seikaly campaign polling found a one point race, while Biden led Trump by two points.

Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to develop strong campaigns. Additionally, through Red to Blue the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings and more.

There are now six Texans on the DCCC’s selective Red to Blue program. Seikaly joins Sima Ladjevardian in TX-02, Wendy Davis in TX-21, Sri Preston Kulkarni in TX-22, Gina Ortiz Jones in TX-23 and Candace Valenzuela in TX-24.

I have kept in touch with all three. These women, along with the others mentioned, represent our (Texas) best hope to make a positive contribution to the make-up of the next congress. Level-headed, ambitious (without being power-hungry), independent-thinking. They want to ACCOMPLISH something, not just be rubber-stamps for some Republican ideologue at the top. I am actively following their campaigns, contributing ideas and money, and getting feedback, something my own rep (Colin Allred) promised, but never delivered. I don't know the other three, but if they are anything like Lulu, Candace and Wendy, they are deserving of support and attention as well. THIS is the future of Texas, not Louis Gohmert or Ted Cruz.
