HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) President Donald Trumps campaign has grown increasingly focused on making inroads in Pennsylvania to offset potential vulnerabilities in other battlegrounds.
The president will travel to the state for the second time in a week on Saturday, hoping to attract the same rural and white working-class voters who delivered him a narrow victory here in 2016. The in-person touch, in what may become the most important battleground on the map, complements an aggressive get-out-the-vote operation that has been working for four years to find new voters by knocking on doors in competitive neighborhoods.
Trump narrowly flipped three Great Lakes states Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin from blue to red in 2016. He has virtually no path to reelection without keeping at least one of those states in his column. His campaign has long viewed Wisconsin as his best option, but aides who requested anonymity to discuss strategy said their thinking has begun to shift.
There are growing concerns inside the campaign, the aides said, about Trumps ability to retain Wisconsin. Even winning that upper Midwest battleground wouldnt provide the needed votes if Trumps Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, claims Arizona.
But Pennsylvania would be enough.
With Pennsylvania, I dont have to make a play, weve got Pennsylvania, boasted Trump at a rally Tuesday night just outside Pittsburgh.
That may be harder than Trump suggests.
Despite fervent Republican efforts, no GOP nominee since George H.W. Bush in 1988 had captured the state until Trump did four years ago, winning by just 44,000 votes out of nearly 5.9 million cast. And as someone born in Scranton, Joe Biden is also heavily focused on the state.

(Shit, Trump only beat Hillary by 44,000 votes. How does he even imagine he has a chance against Joe???)

(5,306 posts)Trump's campaign isn't seeing any good options to gain EC votes. Pennsylvania has 20 EC votes. They might be seeing this as their best bad option. I'm wondering if they've written Florida off yet. Trump had an opportunity to gain some support in Florida with his SC pick. He didn't do it. Trump is trailing everywhere. He has no good options. That's why he is running against the electoral process itself as his best chance to an illegal victory.

(32,017 posts)No way, imo, hes writing it off. On the contrary, I suspect he thinks he has it in the bag (R-Governor, R-Legislature, his home state, Russian malware in the ballot-counting machines, pay-off to Puerto Ricans, and $200 Trump Cards to seniors. He thinks hes winning FL from what I can tell.

(5,007 posts)Now he is beginning to look at VA. He had a big rally in Hampton Roads last night. The Trumpettes were absolutely giddy about his rally in my city FB group. It is strange because it was mostly females that were so excited..You would have thought they were talking about tickets to see a rockstar or something. Sickening. 🤢
