Hamilton County Prosecutor is an office that traditionally is held by Republicans and for many years Joe Deters is the man. I have personally voted for him because he has done a good job and it must have been the opinion of many here. His campaign money is mostly spent on yard signs. His has been a safe seat even though several of the county offices like the county commissioners switched over from all three seats being held by the GOP to now they are all held by Democrats.
Today I have seen my first Joe Deters TV ad in many years, an attack ad on his democratic opponent. As I've stated before, I voted for him before but pledged to vote straight ticket blue so he is flat out of luck. If he needs to resort to TV ads it is an indication his seat isn't as safe as in the past and may be a reflection of the problems the county GOP is facing in this election cycle. BTW in 2016 the county went for Hillary by some 7%.

(23,511 posts)In my county, which is increasingly Democratic, the DA re-registered as decline to state, trying to avoid being tarnished as a Republican. I think that, increasingly, Democratic-endorsed sheriffs and DAs will win office in Democratic areas.

(11,370 posts)is fairly deep and wide. I think a lot of "good guy" or "done a good job" individuals will not be getting votes that they previously would have. The party has succeeded in polarizing the electorate to the point where a "split ticket" seems less and less plausible to a large percentage of voters.
