FLIPPABLE: Janet Diaz for PA-SD13 (Sliding in our direction)

Janet grew up in Lancaster. Her family experienced homelessness when she first moved here, sleeping on couches, in shelters, wherever they could stay warm. They depended on the kindness of churches and the big hearts of the Lancaster community. Her mother eventually got a job at a local nursing home for the minimum wage. It took her more than 20 years to work her way up to a living wage.

There are a lot of people in Lancaster County in the same boat and Janet is running for the State Senate because she knows how hard it is to navigate a system that is built for the powerful, and not for working families in our community.

After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School, Janet became the first member of her family to attend bible college and, guided by her faith, began a career as a healthcare worker while teaching Sunday school, volunteering at a local nursing home, and becoming a sexual assault counselor at the YWCA.

Janet has 18 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She worked as a billing manager for a private physician’s practice and currently works as a medical analyst at Lancaster General Health. Janet has seen the shortcomings of our healthcare system and knows how to fix it.

Through her work in her community and throughout Lancaster County, one thing became clear: her fellow citizens felt unheard and unrepresented by their local government. Folks in Lancaster were desperate for change, so Janet decided to run for City Council where she now serves as an independent voice for her constituents. She’s stood up to her party to hold the line on property taxes and fighting the bureaucrats and the mayor to make sure all Lancaster residents had access to clean running water.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Janet continued to stand up, working directly with small businesses to make sure they had access to the grants and loans available to them to stay in business and keep people employed. Now Janet is running for the State Senate to ensure that people in Lancaster County have a voice in Harrisburg and someone to stand up for them right here at home.
