One of the first authors, whose name I learned and remembered from childhood when I was fixated on his book, "Lad, A Dog." And I was very very YOOOOUNG (but a precocious reader) The author, on the other hand, would likely have been long dead because this book came out in 1919
Just a bit of trivia. Perhaps I should be asking how a kid managed to find a book published more than four decades before they were born, though I suppose it was reprinted many times, like the Oz books from the same period. But, it was a great book, as I recall
