If I were a foreign government, I might want to buy up some of that debt to have some leverage.
I bet the market for Trump debt futures was pretty hot.

(24,367 posts)The problem is a lot of it is golf courses, which from what I gather, are depreciating assets, along with the fact that golf has diminished popularity. It isn't attracting enough young people into the sport to keep it sustainable.
So if it is to be collected, it might mean selling the properties, but for what? Who wants to buy 150 acres of high maintenance grass that loses 10% a year?

(115,681 posts)one of the reasons Trump is in such deep shit is that there's not much demand for the use of his properties any more. And he doesn't own the hotels any more; he just licenses his name, which isn't worth shit these days.

I understand the tower with his name on it in Chicago is losing money big time, as well as the hotel in Vegas. Of course, Vegas has been hit hard by the pandemic anyway, but his hotel was dead before all this.
I've been by the Trump International in West Palm, but that piece of land is just south of the WPB Airport, and between the airport and the 3rd and 4th fairways is a jail! It is bordered on the south by industrial land (the WPB Postal sorting center is right there, that's what takes me by there on occasion), on the east by moderate income housing and on the west by condo's.
The Doral is right under the approach to the diagonal, NW/SE runway at Miami International, and just south of a landfill. It's surrounded by industrial area and mid income housing.
The property in Virginia that he plays at regularly is probably one of the most valuable that I have been to or close to, just because of it's location, being right on the Potomac in a rather tony section of Loudon County. Loudon County is home to some of the finest horse country in the mid Atlantic and some extraordinary, "old money" properties can be found there.
Granted, that's only a small number of the total, and there is certainly some value in what he has his name on, but where he would be financially if he sold everything tomorrow, is the real question.
