Kanye's on my ballot - as VP candidate!

I just got my sample ballot (California sends these out 5-6 weeks before elections) and to my surprise Kanye West was listed as a vice president candidate for the American Independent Party, with the ubiquitous Roque "Rocky" de la Fuente Guerra in the top slot. Now the American Independent Party is one of the 6 that usually make the presidential ballot here - along with Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, and Green - and they usually get about 1-2% of the vote. It's not easy for new parties to get on the ballot, so it was unlikely that West's Birthday Party would be able to get enough signatures to qualify.

But the big question is, how did Kanye let himself end up in the 2nd slot?

"There is no law in California requiring general election presidential and vice-presidential candidates to assent to their nomination by a ballot-qualified party. The party had reached out to Kanye West in the past week, but could not reach him. De La Fuente, of course, had sought the party’s nomination and had placed second in the party’s March 2020 presidential primary."

Anything and everything to try and get someone to waste their vote.
