Those who believe in a biblical standard, we will be punished, she said. We will no longer be able to verbally or practice life in the way that we used to practice life because well be punished for what the Bible says. If we speak what the Bible says, well be punished.

(95,247 posts)I am familiar with the Biblical standard, and by it, an un-persecuted Christian is not properly practicing their faith, and so is an affront to the Lord.

(12,712 posts)Persecution is built into Christianity and modern day, fundamentalist adherents, in their self-centered embrace of their ideas about it, interpret in a way that makes it essential to play a victim even when you are not. It has simply become a useful political strategy and it has been taken out of any religious context and turned into a sledgehammer against their enemies.
That plays to all kinds of psychological needs and forms of neurotic behavior, however, fear seems to be the core aspect of the believers even though peace and fortitude are implied by the teachings. In other words, their lack of "faith" makes them see enemies everywhere and the conjure up their own threatening demons by way of projection, or the "plank in their own eyes".
Also, there is a strong sense of religious superiority involved, (rather than loving humility) as we all know, and who can be superior to those who think that following their superior religion as a world view within a hierarchical, patriarchal pattern? The belief in having the "one true religion" is not the problem here, it is that they demand it be everybody's.
Hence, there can be no equality and fundamentalism is a real enemy of both equality and democracy. It can tolerate neither and would eliminate or destroy both, left unhindered. Theocracy is always a few prayers and crosses away. We have to keep an eye on that.

Where did the Bible tell her to hate and disrespect folks not like her? She may be reading a different book.

(25,853 posts)they're being prevented from practicing their faith. What they're being prevented from doing is forcing their narrow and bigoted beliefs on the rest of us. And they can't stand that.

(14,890 posts)there may be a few things they might not be allowed to do any more. Too tired to think of any right now.
But for the most part they're be able to conform to their narrow, sexist, anti LGBTQI, maybe racists ways
Just don't foist it on me.

However, nothing like that will ever happen under a Democratic President.
