Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJoe will be just...FINE tonight. He knows what's coming, he'll handle it, and look presidential.
Trump is seeing this as a replay of 2016, hovering six inches behind Hillary. Biden will not be intimidated by that. I don't know "how" he is going to deal with it, but my gut is telling me he will simply stay on message, not take the bait, not "react" in an emotional manner, and Trump will come across as the absolute asshole that he is.
I'm really tired of the clickbait of "What if Trump is a DICK tonight?"
Of COURSE he'll be a dick.
MSNBC just played the 2016 clip of Hillary calling him a puppet and he blurts out "YOU'RE a puppet" and that's all he's got, a Pee Wee Herman level of "I KNOW you are, but what am I" childishness.
It's a rite of passage for Joe on the way to November 3rd. He'll handle it, Fox will seize on every little flub (real or imagined) and Trump will act like he's at a MAGAt rally, slinging mud and denying every piece of factual, documented info we know about him.
Take deep cleansing breaths as you watch. We knew it was coming, here it is, and Joe will be just fine.

(26,044 posts)It seems to me the event is being framed as a debate for Biden, but a pro-wrestling match for Trump, with the winner to be determined by "entertainment value."

(18,837 posts)He stood behind her in an attempt to intimidate her, and she wasn't. Trump would most likely attempt similar tactics with Biden.
I never imply anything, I am very direct. If I had intended to say "Biden won't be intimidated, unlike Hillary," that's exactly what I would have said.
I didn't say that, so any implications are what you read into what I wrote, not what I actually said. I know what my intentions were when I wrote it, and respectfully, you do not.
Peace.

(26,044 posts)Most Democrats saw it as a bully trying to dominate a woman; Republicans saw it as a strong man successfully dominating a "corrupt" liberal woman.
Personally, I don't think Trump will try that particular stunt this time -- it takes on a whole different visual quality when his subject is a male who's as tall as he is.

(7,715 posts)It's total bullshite, but most folks would expect a parent to fight back hard if a child was being maligned.
There's another thread on this, and I've posted an SNL video that has a brief appearance by "Hunter"!

(21,464 posts)Biden could ask, calmly, "Do you really want to go there, with your own children lacking bonafide security clearance, working both in the White House and in your businesses?"

(30,613 posts)He'll crash and burn spectacularly. His dementia has advanced pretty badly since 2016. Even if he brings a whole binder full of idiots to tell whatever lies he intends to spring.

(10,098 posts)I am hoping he remains calm, collected and presidential. I know he is a pro, but I am scared. Of course with the ridiculous Chris Wallace as moderator, expect the first question to be about Hunter Biden.

(18,672 posts)Biden will do more than fine. The man is a vastly experienced, career politician and he knows his stuff. He's debated as VP a few times against people crazier than Trump. Trump will be his usually shitty, lying, vulgar self, but people are very tired of his schtick and want to see someone who articulates all the things they've been yearning for from a leader for 4 years. Biden is going to do just that. Any hand wringing about Biden is the result of propaganda - Trump is disseminating info and Russian trolls are doing what they do pretending to be "concerned" liberals online. A few people are spooked.
