Republicans at work this morning

I work in a very conservative area and most of the people at work are Republicans. I was in my office and some of the staff were talking about the debate. Usually they are very pro-Trump but not so much today. They described the debate as "a cluster fuck" (should probably talk to them about their language at some point) and said Trump made it impossible to follow what was going on. One woman said her husband went from being on the fence to deciding to go with Biden after last night. And that was the end of it. Usually they can talk politics for 45 minutes but today it was 30 seconds and they seemed very caught off guard by how bad Trump's performance was last night. No mention of "yeah but Biden!" or "Trump was treated unfairly." Just talk about what a clusterfuck Trump's performance was.

I'm not saying any of that can be generalized to all Trump supporters but I can say the hardcore Trump supporters I work with were very turned off by what they heard last night. I don't think any of them will jump ship to Biden but they clearly saw a version of Trump that Fox News hasn't exposed them to before and they did not like what they saw.

I have an aunt that has been an uber Republican since the 80s. She will just vote for any Republican no matter what. But she said she is just not voting this year. Probably the first time in over 40 years. Voting Democrat is not an option but she also said she can't support Trump either so she is just staying home. I wish she would of course vote Biden but not voting at all is good enough.

I'm sure uneasy Republicans will flock back when the party becomes less Trumpy but at least in the moment, it seems there are reliable Republican voters who are saying "I can't go along with this right now". Good for at least getting rid of Trump and the Republican senate. In the next few years, who knows but for now we should be hyper focused on getting rid of the orange menace.

So in terms of the electoral vote their uneasiness with Trump doesn't make much difference. But I do have to wonder if Republicans around the country are saying to themselves "something seems very off about Trump" which would at least be a good start. Who knows if that is the case but hopefully hopefully last night made at least some people who were leaning trump say "Uhhhhh...what was that.....".

a few strong Dems and the rest seemed politically blah but leaning conservative. I changed the break room tv from Fox to CNN at least twice a day.

I'd love to know what the trumpers are saying today.

Back around 2004, I was working for a company that had about half a doze TV's in the cafeteria of about 200 people.
The person in charge of the TV's was a staunch republican, retired from the Navy.
He would always set the TV's to Fox.
I noticed all TV's were controlled by a set-top-box in a locked cabinet with a glass door.

So, I purchased a cheap (like $5) universal remote. Programmed it for the set-top-box and at lunch I would sit at a table, in front of the locked cabinet and surreptitiously change the channel from Fox to any other news source or sporting event.

The first time I did it, the retired Navy person, walked into the lunchroom and stopped in front of the TV with a puzzled look. Walked over to the cabinet, unlocked it, pulled out the remote and changed it back to Fox.

He started to walk away, but before he left, I had changed it back, by using the simple PREV button, that would jump to the previous channel.

Still puzzled, he walked back and changed the channel back to Fox again. As he walked out, we changed it before he left. At this point he just left it alone.

Friends that sat with me, knew exactly what was going on and we were laughing pretty loudly.

From that day on, if I wasn't going to the cafeteria for lunch, one of my friends would ask to borrow the universal remote.

I think that is about the only thing that could happen after that fustercluck - I can't imagine that BunkerBoy's performance won him even 1 more vote nationwide, but I suspect MANY people who may have been "undecided" will now vote "Biden" - and others may just slink away and stay at home on November 3.

NOT a good night for IQ45!

Trump's base is solid. You can see it on 538's "How Popular is Donald Trump". There is a floor but if last night can cause 1% of them to wake up, then that gives me hope. (Maybe I should say 2.5% of them since Trump's floor seems to be 40%)

I think his anger needs to be played up because there was no obvious reason for him to be angry. Of course, it’s losing that is making him angry, along with the fear of a future when he can’t use the power of the presidency to stop any and all prosecutions.

I hope the FBI has infiltrated groups like the Proud Boys so they can monitor their plans around the election. Trump’s call for them to stand by could have ugly consequences.

This morning I went to the grocery store.

I passed several Trump Flag bearing trucks this morning- just like normal. And even a car that had Trump little flags- one on each side of the car sticking up from the window.

Even with last night- they weren’t ashamed to fly their flags today.

I’m sick to my stomach- northern Michigan.

seem to think today is a good day to talk about something other the politics (for the first time EVER). Can only say "the debate" was really bad. Not Trump or even what was bad about the debate. Just it was bad, they want to talk about something else.
