It feels like a narrative. She’s at home and feeling symptoms. He’s dramatically waiting test results. None of this is even remotely independently verifiable. There’s just something about it that hits me the wrong way.

And I’d note for the last 2-3 hours on CNN that’s all they’re talking about. Not proud boys or his refusal to condemn. So even if it’s not some elaborate play for sympathy or whatever nutty shit they dream up, it at least serves that purpose for them.

But there’s not a lot of clarity on that right now. I guess the bottom line for me is you can’t take anything this admin says about anything at face value. It’s not trust but verify. It’s distrust and verify with these cretins.

But it’s October. He’s getting crushed. I think it’s throw shit at the wall time in the West Wing. If people think he’s willing to execute some wag the dog scenario against Iran or wherever before the election, he’d damn sure be willing to fudge a test.

Maybe nothing. But like you said, you can’t trust anything.

they make you question everything. Down is up and up is down and after a while you don't know what the truth is anymore. I know. I was married to one for eight years and he nearly drove me to a psychotic break.

America is on the verge of a massive psychotic break. I really hope reason can be restored. Joe is the one to do it.

Stay safe.

They’re going to lose big. It’s just annoying to even have to ponder these kinds of shenanigans. Yet a part of me enjoys the idea of them feeling so hopeless they’d need to.

thinking it will make him look like a hero. One day she tests negative, the next day she tests positive and has symptoms (and one report says severe symptoms).

I hope it is one of his cons, as much as I dislike everything to do with his administration I wouldn't wish a severe case of this on Hicks.

As you say.."So even if it’s not some elaborate play for sympathy or whatever nutty shit they dream up, it at least serves that purpose for them"... of course, could be his out for debates..or, whoa is me, I have Covid..vote for me, I feel like I am becoming so conspiratorial. I have never been someone to buy in to anything unless I could see it, feel it, or touch it..it just doesn't pass the smell test..

I’ve been reading other skeptics recently suggesting this about other bad news — eg. the tax returns story was good for Trump because people stopped talking about COVID, then the debate was good for Trump because people stopped talking about the tax returns.

But if the COVID story is good for Trump because people have stopped talking about the debate, we’ve gone full circle.

I just don’t see how it can be good for Trump if everyone is reminded about the dangers of COVID, and how irresponsible he and his whole team has been with their safety-last attitude.

To me, this story, along with the Melania tapes, makes this just another day in a string of bad news days for Trump. He’s getting clobbered right now and there’s nothing he can do. (Funnily enough a better candidate might be able to garner a bit of sympathy from all this negative news, but fat chance of that after acting like the world’s biggest asshole in front of the entire country...)

It's hard to pinpoint a way for this to benefit them in the long term for the reasons you cited.

Best I could come up with is say he is either reported to be ill or gets seriously maybe Biden gets pressured into taking his ads down, which is not uncommon when one candidate in a race falls ill or has a family tragedy etc. But that would only be a short term benefit for them if a benefit at all, and also starts to get into House of Cards territory.

In the end, this will almost certainly be like you said, more or less a footnote. A month from now we'll all be saying "Remember when we thought Trump had the virus? That seems like a year ago." Business as usual for the last 4 years.

On edit: Trump reportedly has covid 19.

Just when a story is getting a lot of attention, another story takes its place. And Trump is such a slippery bastard that it feels plausible that he might be pulling strings behind the scenes.

But yeah, honestly I think we might be at the stage now where he’s just completely lost control of the narrative. There are only a few weeks to go until the election and he’s just getting buried under an avalanche of bad press. It’s almost hard to keep track of all the stories, but each one is doing damage to him. And they just keep coming!
