I started off with exposure and the first 10 days, or so at home with horrific fever and everything else imaginable. Long story short I found myself in Baylor hospital with shortness of breath.
Since, then, I have recovered quite a bit with the help of the experimental remdesovir and also with the help of dexamethasone therapy. It really looks like I am going to pull though and get to come home. Disoriented, but a survivor.
I will just reiterate for everyone this evening that the virus is no joke and there are real consequences coming if Trump has it.
I am also extremely worried about Biden. given the proximities involved.

(16,856 posts)I haven't had Covid, but I've been in the hospital for about six weeks now and we haven't been allowed any visitors at all until about a week ago. It's tough going that long without seeing anyone you know. It must be unbearable for people who have terminal illnesses or for those who love people who are dying in the hospital. The isolation from loved ones is the worst art of this pandemic, I think.

(11,949 posts)A coworker got it in June. Late 40s no underlying conditions. Went into ICU on with double viral
pneumonia on Wednesday. Got Remdesovir starting that day. Out of ICU on Saturday, home on Tuesday. Doctor said he could not prove the drug did it, but said it was an amazing recover. Hes fine now.
I hope your recovery is rapid.

(5,164 posts)I had it too with double pneumonia in April but I was able to manage it mostly at home although I still have back and rib pain and I have some chronic stuff going on now. At that time my doc rx steroid inhalers but told me not to take pills because they thought it was bad for covid. I asked for antivirals but she said you had to be in the hospital for that. I took a zpac when the pneumonia pain started and it helped me survive I am sure and I was already on eliquis which saved me too I am sure. I took vit d, high doses of c which helped clear my lungs and other supplements. I am worried about Biden too.

(102,376 posts)I'm glad to hear you are likely heading home soon.
I've lost medical colleagues and my ER nurse sister has been ill since May 4 with chronic intractable migraines and newly developed hypertension. I'm grateful she didn't develop COVID-19 pneumonia, but these less common cardiovascular and neurologic signs pretty much have left the cardiologists and neurologists unsure what to say about them--especially if MRIs are ok. Most likely a continuing effect of the virus on the vascular epithelium and the body's immune response going a bit haywire, but we just don't know. Routine therapies don't necessarily work as they would in other situations.
She so badly wants to get better and return to work, but...
Like me, she is horrified by those who do not take this sufficiently serious--and that includes some HCW colleagues that have become lax as well. It truly does matter that our (current) leaders discount/downplay it.
All the best to you on your recovery!

(9,654 posts)I had it back in March. Thankfully, I didn't get the real severe version that you had. I was pretty sick, but I didn't need the hospital.
Even with what I had, it took a very long time to get my energy back. Months. So don't be surprised when you don't feel like yourself for a long time to come.
And I found that sleeping in a recliner was much better than laying flat in a bed. I learned that one by trial and error. It really helped to keep the cough under control.

When I read your post, it reminded me to be cognizant of possible exposure and how unsafe it really is out there---with no easing in sight.
Borh my sons are in medical field and work in hospital setting; both can't stress enough how really bad it's out there-- warn me not to go out unless its really necessary. I worry for them too.

Also, be careful about flinging around medical advice. Vitamin D is one of the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E & K) and as such, it is possible to have it build to toxicity.

(58,785 posts)and that you'll have an uneventful recovery. You'll be very weak at first, of course, but just being home will be good medicine.
I've read that the Samson Pavilion at the Cleveland Clinics where the debate took place is a new building with good ventilation engineering, to the point that last spring it was pressed into service as a Covid hospital with only modest changes to its HVAC systems, mostly piping in oxygen, etc.

(8,200 posts)It seems from what I have read that the medical community is still working to determine the affects of this virus. That makes me hope that young people who seem to have recovered with little or even no complications will not have some complications latter. It also makes me also wonder about just how deadly these viruses can become when not properly treated and allowed to mutate.
