Way back when, during his first debate appearance, Gov. Rick Perry said something to the effect that you would have to be heartless to discriminate against a kid who was applying to enter the Texas university system just because their parents brought them into the country illegally. This created an instant "not-hating-Latinos-for-Jesus-enough" problem for Perry, and his poll numbers dropped like a stone. So far, aided by actual debate gaffes, his numbers have not recovered. So, how about a bold move that says fuck-you to the Latino community louder than anything else could?
Rick Perry's campaign will have probably folded its tents before he ever gets to Arizona, so this is more of a signal to the voters of South Carolina and Florida. It's becoming clear that most of the Republican candidates believe that they will benefit by saying and doing racially insensitive things. I don't remember this really being the case in recent presidential elections. And even when I have noticed racial language being used inappropriately, it's been surrogates doing the talking. Suffice to say that Rick Perry has obliterated one of the two things he's done during this campaign that made me like him. The other was his defense of inoculating girls against HPV.
In the modern GOP, decency isn't tolerated. If you accidentally show some decency, you have to go racing as fast as you can in the other direction to prove that you have no decency whatsoever.
What does that tell you?

Perry's show will draw to a close with a dismal performance in South Carolina. He has no heart for this anymore...why he hurried home after doing so poorly in Iowa. But he had a lot of money backing him and that's what's pushing him on. He's going through the motions but wants to show those suckers who threw money at him it wasn't a complete waste (even though it was).
His only hope is the viscious battles among Gingrich and Rectorum tear both of them down and gives him one last chance. But even then the image of him at those debates is too much to overcome.

(70,684 posts)Today are opening arguments on his state's voter-suppresion/Gerrymandered district maps. Goodhair's Shrub-lite shtick with Hispanics is to sign draconian cuts in social programs and this other stuff then to travel down to Hispanic-majority areas and flash his boyish smile and pat the backs and have mariachis in the background of photo ops. Somehow he finds stooges to go along with his Potemkin powerpoint productions.
As for his ARPAIO courting, back before his "no heart" days, he courted Ruben NAVARRETTE on an iced tea date, seeking a Hispanic to get his message to Hispanics that he was friendly. Let's leave the hypocrisy factor aside for a second and take up the sub-topic of his cluelessness: NAVARRETTE is a stooge for Rethugs, a Shrub-lover, like Linda CHAVEZ. He is not a representative to or for Hispanics. He has said he hates the White Liberal males who did him (and Clarence THOMAS) the oppression of creating Affirmative Action. So Goodhair was asking somebody who does not have influence with Hispanics to be his bridge to Hispanics.
Now back to his hypocrisy (a multi-layered thing): He trades the "no heart" thing for ARPAIO without blinking?!1
For other topics on his hypocrisy: Preaching cutting government spending while billing his taxpayers for his nationwide Security detail and double-dipping ("retiring" on paper) with a pension plus a "working" salary. (His work consisting of 21 hours per week.)
