GA: Voting groups giving out food boxes Saturday at James Brown Arena

Mayor Hardie Davis and voting advocacy groups will give out hundreds of food boxes Saturday at the James Brown Arena parking lot.

The event, sponsored by the When We All Vote “Fuel the Vote” initiative and the New Georgia Project, will draw attention to the problem of food deserts, according to a statement from Davis’ spokeswoman Petula Burks.

The arena area has no grocery store within four miles.

With the boxes, residents will be encouraged to register to vote, vote and complete the 2020 Census, the statement said.

Stephanie Young, national spokesperson for When We All Vote, co-founded by Michelle Obama, will speak about the importance of voting.

The food distribution will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Social distancing and masks are required.
