https://theweek.com/speedreads/941307/trump-aides-reportedly-think-hell-face-harsh-judgment-from-voters-after-covid19-diagnosisAfter Trump announced that he and first lady Melania Trump had both tested positive for COVID-19, The New York Times reported that "strategists in both parties and even senior aides to Mr. Trump said the president would face a harsh judgment from voters for throwing the country into greater uncertainty after one of the most trying years in American history."
The Times goes on to report that advisers to Trump acknowledge that his positive diagnosis will "remind voters of how dismissive" he has been about the coronavirus. "Mr. Trump's recklessness, one adviser admitted, amounted to a political 'disaster,'" the Times writes. Trump has continued to hold large rallies amid the pandemic and rarely worn a mask, and he told journalist Bob Woodward that he wanted to downplay the risks of COVID-19

(10,267 posts)They could give a shit how many tens of thousands hes already killed and how many more will die trying to make him look good. I know its 100s of thousands dead but some of them would have died without trumps scamming. But certainly the largest share of deaths would have been averted if trump would have been honest from the start. There will certainly be a large spike directly due to his most recent actions. Its hard to think of an American politician in our history who has done as much damage as trump.

(10,135 posts)They put on this. Those stupid F's would vote for him in a coma and say "it's better than a D" and make some joke out of it. They are that willfully stupid and misguided.
Zero credit given for their level of dot connecting.

(34,107 posts)If the coronavirus could EVEN get to Trump - as insulated as he has been - there is no point in taking precautions since nothing we can do will prevent it.
Just two of those touting the new narrative I've encountered:

(16,616 posts)Trump is famous for dismissing the virus, failing to wear a mask, holding mass rallies with no masks or social distancing, and for ridiculing people who took precautions, for proposing medical interventions that are hazardous to our health (like injecting Lysol) and calling the most highly-renowned doctors in the country liars and frauds.
He can't recover from this.

(34,107 posts)(using him as exhibit 1 - the virus even manage to sneak in and get the president), so it is irresponsible to continue precautions that hurt the economy.
Their contention, as to Trump - specifically - is that the tests everyone around him was required to take provide more protection than masks, and even with more protection the virus still managed to get him.
Listen to Atlas, justifying the family not wearing masks - Trump's family is not similarly situated to others. They don't need masks because everyone around them is tested all the time, giving better protection.
. . . and EVEN with BETTER protection, Trump still got it - so imagine how much sooner he would have gotten with the lesser protection of masks and social distancing.
(it's ludricous, but that is how they are spinning it, and it seems to me to be sticking)

(16,616 posts)toll from him attending events would even be higher. They only reason they divulged it is that he was having symptoms that couldn't be hidden. Even Wednesday and Thursday, people remarked on how awful he looked.
We are actually lucky he got too sick to lie about it; otherwise, he'd still be spreading it all over the place.
