I have never heard anyone mispronounce "Ottawa" the way @TuckerCarlson does here. Very odd.

He claims every union in the country chants "Remember Pana!" at their meetings, yet he mispronounces it every time.

It's an Algonquin language, and the phrase translates approximately to "the trade," or "to trade."

A number of place-names in the NE come from Indian phrases, rather than single words. I live near the Susquehanna River, which is also a phrase. It's interesting that both the Algonquin and Iroquois peoples living at various places along the river used a similar sounding phrase for the river, with somewhat different meanings.

Not far from Oneonta, NY, there is a village named Otego. Locals pronoune it "Oh-tea-go," thought the phrase that is based upon was "ott-tu-go."

Perhaps I am giving Tucker too much credit, though I normally give him none. But, intentional or not, he was pretty close to accurate.
