Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is petitioning for an investigation into Rupert Murdoch's media empire in Australia and its interference in Australian politics.
Kevin Rudd creates petition for News Corp royal commission
Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd says he was motivated to launch a petition calling for a royal commission into Rupert Murdoch's media empire after coming to the conclusion that News Corp was running a "protection racket" for the Coalition.
Almost 6000 people had signed the petition less than 24 hours after Mr Rudd's announcement on Saturday morning, leading to some glitches on the Australian Parliament website when people tried to sign.
... snip
In an interview with The Sun-Herald and The Sunday Age, Mr Rudd said the sheer concentration of News Corp's ownership of newspapers about 70 per cent of print readership across Australia had left many in the Australian community unwilling to criticise the company.
While the company always had an editorial bent, Mr Rudd said News Corp had become much worse over the past decade and now acted as a "protection racket for the Liberal/National Party".

(16,420 posts)3. From Pete Evans:
To be clear, Rudd has not many friends in politics, even in his own party, but it is significant he , as a former Prime Minister is making this call. Giving evidence at a Royal Commission offers protections to witnesses, such as not being able to be sued for what is said. Hmmm

If not, he should be soon. The guy has one foot in the grave. How much longer can he last?

That's also why Dick Cheney is still alive.

(21,596 posts)11. Not only is he not dead, he's been married to Jerry Hall since March 2016.
Jerry Hall, the American model and actress, was formerly with Mick Jagger, with whom she has 4 children.

A good heart attack would be nice.
