also apparent in 2016 or before?
How were so many of us non-expert "common people" able to see through the bullshit and see the lying maniac "way back then"?

(7,596 posts)In 2016, he was a racist, a misogynist, a crook, a shitty husband and father, a bully, and a sexual predator. Now he actually has blood on his hands in addition to all that.

(35,364 posts)how otherwise intelligent people couldn't see that and still don't today. No matter what he does they explain it away.

(26,045 posts)It strikes me that Trump supporters fall into one of two categories:
1) Those with a low level of education and/or intelligence. For them, Trump is, as someone has pointed out, "the poor man's idea of a rich man, the stupid man's idea of a smart man, and the weak man's idea of a strong man."
2) Those who recognize all these faults, but still support him because it's to their own financial advantage (not that of the country as a whole) to ignore his faults while they rake in the windfall.

(35,364 posts)bullshit. I graduated high school and see him for what he is and always was. I just don't get it.

(2,751 posts)and radio is a big part of it. No checks with unfiltered lies or conspiracies will twist minds.
The family members I have that still support this guy all have one or two issues that keep them hanging on. The economy or abortion!
On edit: I am sure there are more secretive reasons why as well. The race hate, but they will NEVER claim it.

(26,045 posts)While we may have suspected it, we didn't have proof that he would behave as the nation's corrupt "owner" as President. Now we do.

(7,447 posts)I thought he had a baseline level of intelligence, but I was wrong.
I didn't think he was smart at all, but the level of stupid is pretty rare.

(26,045 posts)...he used to be arrogant, but he also was able to communicate in coherent sentences with adult-level reasoning. Now, he sounds like a 4th grader -- which suggests he's had a significant level of cognitive decline as he's aged.

(1,789 posts)but even dumber in his public persona. Acts dumber than he really is while lying and saying he is smarter than he really is. He was dumb enough in private to let himself be recorded and allowed us to draw the contrast.

(14,494 posts)of his own wife and kids during this pandemic, all sacrificed for the sake of his image. We all knew he never cares about his friends, employees or contractors.
I suppose this truly demonstrates the degree of psychopath he really is.
The man has the compassion and empathy of a brick.

(7,429 posts)Trump promised cheap and easy fixes for all the thorniest problems during his campaign.
Jobs and immigration? Build a wall and hand Mexico the bill
North Korea? Hand China the bill
Russia and NATO? Hand Europe the bill
Middle East? Hand them the bill / take the oil
Pandemic preparedness? Tear up the bill
Federal budget? Reduce the bills to the wealthy
Climate change? Tear up the bill
So four years later and all these bills are now past due and the bill collectors are knocking. That's all that is going on.
