Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made her Twitch debut tonight to play Among Us and encourage viewers to vote. She also, very quickly, became one of the platforms biggest broadcasters: her stream peaked at 435,000 viewers around the time of her first match, according to Twitch. (The stream is still going as of this writing, but it had dipped to around 350,000 viewers after about two hours of playing.)
That peak viewership puts her broadcast among the 20 biggest streams ever, according to the third-party metrics site TwitchTracker, and much higher if youre only looking at broadcasts from individual streamers. Ninja holds the record for an individual streamer, with more than 600,000 viewers during a Fortnite match with Drake in 2018. TwitchTrackers metrics suggest that AOCs stream could in the top 10 for an individual in terms of peak viewers.
Politicians have increasingly been using tech and games to get out their message. The Biden campaign debuted an Animal Crossing island last week. Last year, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) joined Twitch to reach a potentially supportive audience that we may not be hitting other ways.

(16,646 posts)She's the type of the future for the party. The current generation mastered the art of getting big budget liberals to donate to campaigns by making phone calls and holding 10k a plate dinners. Howard Dean started the small donation method and Act Blue and Move On have taken it to a new level. The future is in building a "brand" and leveraging that into money and influence.

(4,131 posts)Most here witnessed 30 years of baseless, negative right wing smears on Hillary Clinton. We saw how that constant negativity seeped into the public consciousness over the years and how ultimately it cost us in 2016.
Theres a reason this site has a rule requiring you to support Democrats.
Further, take note of the substantive reasoning this poster used to support their assertion.

(10,171 posts)awe of all of AOC's magnificent accomplishments. She's clearly the savior of the Democratic Party in America. No other politician has done as much as AOC to end poverty, end wars and inspire us all. My life would be empty and meaningless without AOC. Her non binding GND resolution has changed the world. Only she can save us. She has made Joe Biden the front runner in the presidential race. She is responsible for every Democratic success.
Is that sufficient adoration?

(45,120 posts)that you don't like her. As for the rest of your post no one ever said anything like that either. What she did last night was amazing. Dems should be celebrating her and giving her a higher profile in their party.

(4,131 posts)Im sure everyone is going to be amused watching you try to contort yourself into some wild shape to make an argument that AOC running a GOTV engagement with young people - that drew 500,000+ viewers - is underwhelming and actually a bad thing.

(8,383 posts)I had no idea how the game was played, and am still confused, but it looked fun and collaborative, until you die in the game!
Young(er) people are fantastic. I know my Millennial daughters and their husbands all play online games, but I have no idea how/what/where/when.
The energy and happiness that radiated from her seemed really genuine.
Finally, she appears to have tapped into a great way to get younger people to vote.
