(149,663 posts)Their mission is not only to get rid of tRump.
They also plan to oust all of his supporters/enablers in the Senate and House.
They will not stop till all these horrible wretches are gone.

(67,782 posts)Like Democrats, they're looking to the future, not dwelling on things they have no control of. The thing is we and they want a government in which something like the last four years, last year especially, will never happen again.

(16,415 posts)That if we click our heels three times the opposition will disappear forever and Democrats will have a 100-0 advantage in the senate in perpetuity and every house seat, state legislature and governorship.
Spoiler alert: We wont ever have that. So if guys like Steve Schmidt want to reconstitute a new center right opposition party I say go for it. Id rather that be the opposition than the loonies that are dominant now. That way in the future when we lose, and we will lose, because nobody ever wins them all, insane people are not in charge of our government.

(4,993 posts)The largest count any one party has had in the House and Senate was during the 75th Congress.
The Democrats held 333 (of 435) House seats and 75 (of 96) Senate seats.
They too got a little complacent after that and lost 71 House seats (down to 262) in the next election.

They're like the mechanical repairs that have to be done to keep having a republic. I don't think we can avoid those things.

(7,715 posts)I've worked and lived with many hardcore Republicans over the years. Almost without exception, they are appalled at the state of affairs. TLP is genuine, and they are 100% our allies for the foreseeable future.
Will they be that way on November 4? I bet they will. If there is a moderation of the Republican party, perhaps they will go back, but that's going to take awhile and sustained efforts by us to moderate the 40% or so RWNJs we have.
November 3 is just the first major battle to win our country back. Please remember that. It's just a step, albeit a giant leap.

(9,670 posts)Are we focusing on our distrust for TLP?
If we're not willing to accept the help of an ideological foe who was willing to put country before party at the most pivotal moment in recent American history, aren't we just as bad as them, then, in that regard?
We're not marrying them. We're not incorporating them into our politics. We are simply an odd couple working together to put out the fire of fascism. Leave it at that.

(16,415 posts)And that theyre willing to get really nasty while doing it. Sanctimonious people who care more about ideological purity than winning usually fall under that umbrella. Ben Rosen, whoever he is, was probably bitching about Joe Biden running away with the primary 7 months ago.

Of course they reject groups like The Lincoln Project.
The last thing a fringe 3rd Party wants is a Strong Moderate Center.
(Which is necessary to restore balance to our Democratic Republic.)
A society is most successful when it is governed from the center.
It's as simple as a teeter totter.
I look forward to a Democracy of center based governance.
Joe Biden, " I am not a socialist".
Thank god.
I think we've seen enough political extremism with RW Trump, to be wiser as a society, from here on.

(15,325 posts)..TLP republicans can do it successfully because they know the base they're talking to.
All of the guys at TLP are quite dialed in to the political world. They know there is a big base of Repubs who are fed up with Trump's bs.
Their Party was hijacked by extremists to run foreign oppo on the USA.
Only another fed up Republican can do what TLP is doing.
Bring their Party back to the center.

(7,650 posts)going after Dump. I do, however, think it's important to not put TLP on a pedestal. They represent special interests and the special interests realize that they cannot depend on Dump & his accomplices to do their bidding. Right now, Biden is deciding on who will be in his administration. I just hope that the tentacles of TLP don't reach too far. We already saw some of their influence at the DNC.

(19,965 posts)at the least Wilson and Schmidt have said that the GOP need to be burnt to the ground. There are some who hope that once Trump is gone, everything can return to normal. The reality is that there is going to be an enormous shitfest as the slime like Pompeo, Haley, Rubio etc jockey for the leadership and won't be able to cut the Trumpers out, in fact they'll have to pander to them further with Trump in the background. TLP will be around for a fair time yet, but it is reassuring to know that those on the distant left of the Democratic Party will be there waiting to be proven right.

(14,971 posts)the Republican party won't be. I believe they'll continue the Lincoln Project as a pro-Democracy organization. Wilson said he feels liberated not working for the Republican party anymore. He's also got his gig as an executive editor over at the Daily Beast. I also expect to see some of them working on Dem campaigns in red and purple states and districts. Reed Galen said if Democrats ask , he'll be open to working with them. George Conway, who quit the Project due to his daughter ,is the only one I can see sticking with the party. He's the most conservative out of all of them.
George II
(67,782 posts)Their immediate focus is on ridding us of trump and the Senators who most closely back him (Graham, Ernst, Hyde-Smith, etc.) The long-term goal is to reshape the republican party to where it was 30 or 40 years ago. But they've admitted they will never again work in the republican party as it is today.
There's a lot more to them than just what we've seen in ads the last two months or so, well worth looking into.
Unlike many of those in the House and Senate (and trump), they're Americans first, republicans second.
GreenEyedLefty
(2,073 posts)They talk about having a robust two party system, and I believe them. I also agree with them that Trumpism is a cancer that needs to be eradicated from the national political scene. I know it will never really just disappear altogether but the fact that it was allowed to assume the highest office in the land should be reason enough for Americans to dial in and give a shit about all elections.
Their tactics are easily reproducible; there are plenty of talented Democrats who could play them at the same game, should it come to that.
