FL-26:Mucarsel-Powell moves from 'Tossup' to 'Lean Democrat'
Democrats are feeling more confident this race is "coming home" to Mucarsel-Powell after former fire chief and two-term Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez led for much of the year thanks to positive press of his local leadership on COVID. After all, President Trump lost this seat by 16 points in 2016 and Democrats have been pounding Gimenez on television for endorsing him in January.
Republican groups have thrown the kitchen sink at Mucarsel-Powell, including her husband's business ties to a Ukrainian oligarch who has been accused of contract killings. But Mucarsel-Powell outraised Gimenez $2.1 million to $668,000 in the third quarter, and that sheer financial muscle is finally paying off. Trump has improved his standing with Cuban voters since 2016, but perhaps not by enough to lift Gimenez.
