(40,216 posts)"...no one, he thinks, has suffered so much since Job lost his camels and acquired boils and ever a weakling, Trump will end his presidency as he began it: whining.

(82,849 posts)He calls it the "Trump parenthesis," as if it just dropped out of the sky and landed in our timeline, unconnected to any other events in Republican governance. An aberration, not an apotheosis.

(33,388 posts)Those parentheses include, at least, from Atwater and Ailes to Murdoch and Trump. Metastasis of the Republican party and its root "conservatism" began with Newt. Trump the narcissistic opportunist jumped into the pus party that was already beyond cure. The propaganda machine built over the decades had become a juggernaut beyond the creators' control. Their candidates and voters became true believers in the cult, each trying to outdo the other in extremism and alt-reality.
Let us continue the surgical excising of the diseased GOP. The 2018 elections were just the opening cuts.
