New: GOP Sen Lisa Murkowski reiterates Senate should not take up SCOTUS nomination until after election & hasn’t changed her mind after meeting Amy Coney Barrett.

“I’ve shared for a while that I didn’t think we should be taking this up until after the election,” she said.

I think there is better than a 50% chance Murkowski switches parties after the election WSHazel Oct 2020 #3

She is definitely getting a primary challenge if she remains a Republican, and she will probably lose that primary. She could try the switcheroo she did in 2010 after the primary, but the Democrats will run a real candidate in 2022 because Alaska is trending purple, so that will be harder. If Murkowski wants to switch, she will have to do it early in the next session. I think this is why she is openly defying the GOP.

Her other alternative is to retire. She has no chance of getting reelected as a Republican.

5. Yeah, but what does that mean?

Does that mean the nomination sails through a lame duck Senate, and saves Republican Senators from having to be on record before voters go to the polls? Does that mean the nomination is dead for this Congress if Trump isn't re-elected? "After the election" is really ambiguous, and every Republican, even the putatively independent ones, has earned every drop of distrust.
