Sounds like they were trying to pull a fast one on the judge and the court system and the rule of law. And if that didn't work, they had backup plans to make the plan even faster. This is heavy stuff, especially at such high levels of government.

doing just what your supposed to do in this case. Dribble the ball at the top of the key and run the clock!

And the funny part, from the last hearing, it sounded like he hadnt read any of voluminous brief-filing. Flynn will be pardoned in the end, if Trump is re-elected. But, I take satisfaction in his lawyers bleeding him dry financially!
